Jon

I am a passionate Physics and Mathematics tutor with over 15 years of teaching experience and more than 15000 hours of online lessons delivered. I completed my Ph.D in Physics at Imperial College London after obtaining both a BSc and MPhil in Physics. Throughout my academic journey, I developed a deep interest in understanding not only advanced scientific concepts, but also the most effective ways to learn and teach them.

Over the years, I have worked with students from many leading UK schools, including Eton College, St Paul's School, Westminster School, The Henrietta Barnett School, Hampton School, Lady Eleanor Holles School, Manchester Grammar School, and Godolphin and Latymer School. I have also supported international students preparing for UK qualifications such as GCSE, IGCSE, and A-level examinations.

In addition to tutoring, I have experience teaching university-level Physics and Mathematics, including topics such as electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, and advanced calculus. I also coached students for Pan-Asia Physics Olympiads, Asian Physics Olympiads, and International Physics Olympiad competitions, where students achieved multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals under my guidance.

I am also the author of A-level Mathematics mock papers and practice materials available on Amazon, designed to provide students with high-quality, challenging exam-style questions beyond standard past papers. My goal is not only to help students achieve excellent grades, but also to help them develop confidence, curiosity, and strong analytical thinking skills.

Teaching Experience

I have over 15 years of tutoring experience teaching GCSE, IGCSE, A-level, and university-level Physics and Mathematics. My teaching covers a wide range of exam boards including Edexcel, AQA, OCR A, OCR B, CIE, and Eduqas. I specialise in Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Oxbridge and Imperial entrance examinations, including STEP, MAT, PAT, ENGAA, and TMUA.

Since 2019, many of my students have successfully gained admission to Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and other Russell Group universities. I have also helped students achieve significant grade improvements, including students progressing from predicted E grades to solid B grades, as well as students securing A* grades and top GCSE results.

I previously coached students for Pan-Asia Physics Olympiads, Asian Physics Olympiads, and International Physics Olympiad competitions, where students achieved multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals. I have also worked with students from various countries including Hong Kong, China, Switzerland, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Thailand, helping them adapt to the British examination system.

Alongside private tutoring, I have worked with organisations supporting financially disadvantaged students, allowing me to develop experience teaching students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and abilities.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is highly exam-oriented while still focusing on building strong conceptual understanding. I believe students perform best when they fully understand the logic behind concepts rather than relying purely on memorisation. I aim to simplify difficult topics into clear, structured explanations that students can apply confidently in examinations.

Lessons are carefully tailored to each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and target grades. For students who need support with fundamentals, I focus on strengthening core understanding step by step while improving confidence and exam technique. For stronger students aiming for top grades, I provide advanced problem-solving training designed to push their thinking beyond standard classroom level.

I also offer an A* Targeting Scheme for students who already find most past paper questions relatively straightforward. Under this programme, I create customised A* difficulty questions using my own unique question bank, specifically targeting weaker areas and advanced problem-solving skills. These questions are designed to reflect the style and creativity of the most challenging examination questions, helping students develop deeper analytical thinking and stronger adaptability under exam conditions.

In addition, I place strong emphasis on exam strategy, time management, and recognising common question patterns. My lessons often include carefully selected exam-style questions, structured feedback, and targeted practice to maximise improvement within a short period of time.

Outside lessons, students are welcome to contact me through WhatsApp for quick questions and support, allowing lesson time to focus more efficiently on deeper learning and exam practice. My overall aim is not only to improve grades, but also to help students become independent, confident, and intellectually curious learners.
