Reviews:

From Melanie (5/5): (Primary English) "Sue is an excellent tutor for our 5 year old. She has patience and persistence and provides a varied and stimulating lesson for him. Weekly feedback on his progress is always informative."

From Samantha (5/5): (Primary English) Susan has really helped me with some super ideas to help my son, who has been very reluctant to practice his reading and letter formation. She has also provided sensible and achievable learning materials, which have held his interest, which has been pivotal in changing his attitude to literacy. I have definitely seen an improvement in his confidence, even in the short time we have been working together.

Educational support for children, parents and schools covering the areas of Ledbury, Hereford, Worcester , Drybrook ,Malvern and Newent.

I hope I can help.

Teaching Experience

Up to 2015 I had been teaching and Deputy Head of a local Primary School

Special Needs Coordinator and Head of an Outstanding Language and Communication Centre attached to a Primary School.

Now semi retired after 30 years of teaching, I continue to strive to support children as individuals, to reach their full potential through tuition and home schooling.

I now work as a tutor for my local county council supporting both Primary and Secondary School pupils.

Tutoring Approach

As a 1:1 tutor i prioritize building trust, diagnosing learning gaps, and using multi sensory, short-burst activities.

I centre around making the learning environment feel relaxed and highly interactive, allowing pupils to make mistakes then addressing those mistakes.

I Identify core gaps and then start to make small steps forward.

I align with school methods. I match specific methods with their classroom teacher to avoid causing confusion.

I model the new strategy explicitly by talking out loud through my own thinking process. I show with small step examples. I then let the pupil try while using physical or visual props. Then let my pupil explain the process back to me in their own words.

A great advantage of 1:1 tuition is that I can Stop and address errors immediately when they happen

I praise the creative strategy, focus, and resilience a pupil shows, instead of just celebrating a correct answer.

I ask open-ended questions like "How did you work that out?" to build their independent self-checking habits.

I share these small wins directly with parents to build a positive feedback loop that increases the child's motivation.

Susan has built good relationships and has found ways of engaging them in their learning. She has revisited lots of learning which had needed to be consolidated. They are feeling much more confident when they are in school.

Tutor response

Thank you Emily. I appreciate your feedback.
