I'm a school teacher with over 20 years experience teaching in primary and secondary schools, colleges and as a private tutor. I am a highly motivated and conscientious individual, committed to teaching with enthusiasm. I'm an organised tutor with a good sense of humour, calm and professional manner and thrive on working with children and helping them to learn. I enjoy the humour and spontaneity of children and enjoy the challenges and opportunities that tutoring brings. My interests that I bring to teaching include a range of different activities. I enjoy cooking, reading, listening to music and I like to participate in team and individual sports. These include swimming, skiing, badminton, tennis and running. In my leisure time I also enjoy music concerts, going to the theatre and long walks in the countryside with friends. I qualified with a BEd. (Hons.) Primary teaching degree from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004. My specialist subjects were English and Geography. Since then, I have taught in schools in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Sandwell. I have also completed specialist work with children in learning centres to develop their learning. I have taught all primary-aged children and worked with children in secondary schools. I endeavour to use my extensive experience, in teaching, to provide successful tutoring for all children. I now offer tuition for secondary students up to GCSE level students as I also currently teach English and Maths at a local college.
Tutoring Approach
I teach in a confident, friendly and patient manner. I use a range of resources to keep my teaching stimulating, interesting and exciting. I encourage active interaction within my tutoring in order to gain the best from the children I teach. I build a strong rapport with the children, so that they enjoy their subject and fully benefit from the teaching. I use a range of individually tailored resources and teaching styles for each child I teach and use different methods specific to their learning. Ultimately I aim to make the children enthusiastic about learning, and confident in their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Fran has been a fantastic learning support for my son in the months leading up to his GCSEs. My son has some learning difficulties (mainly working memory and language processing) and is high functioning autistic, and Fran has adapted her methods to suit and been incredibly kind and positive. Fran was wonderful with my daughter, tutoring her in both maths and English during a time when she had really lost confidence in herself and her learning. She struggled in a classroom environment and has mild dyslexia, but Fran was patient, encouraging, and adapted lessons in a way that really helped her. Over time, I saw not only improvements in her learning, but also her confidence and self-belief grow again. We’re very grateful for all her support.

Frances was great with our daughter Jessica. She was excellent with liaising with us to see what we needed from her alongside assessing where the gaps in Jessicas knowledge were and targeting these areas. She taught her both English and Maths and Jessica engaged and enjoyed both. Frances made Jessica feel comfortable and supported throughout their sessions and because of this Jessica learned a lot from her. I would thoroughly recommend Frances as a tutor; she was brilliant.

Fran was an absolute godsend, when we needed to find a tutor for our daughter. My daughter is dyslexic and struggles with a processing disorder. Fran was extremely patient and really helped her make progress in her work. My daughter looked forward to her time with Fran and felt very comfortable in her company. Frances is wonderful with young kids and she can help my 5 year old to stay focused in a 45 min long session and get him to enjoy learning Phonics! So lucky to have her as Harry's tutor!

I highly recommend Frances as a tutor, she has tutored our nine year old son and has been so gentle, patient and caring. Our son finds it very difficult to sit down and concentrate but Frances was not fazed by this at all and has managed to engage his imagination and really helped him progress in his academic studies. It was wonderful to look back and see how much they achieved in just one hour sessions. Our son has looked forward to his lessons and will miss Frances very much. Fran has got off to a great start with our daughter, helping her with KS1 maths. She is patient (needed with a 6 year old!) and has been very thorough in initial assessments and identifying focus areas for sessions. Even after a few sessions our daughter is more confident and enjoying maths more - I think the secondary approach outside of school and 1 on 1 is really worth it and Fran’s friendly and encouraging nature has put our daughter at ease. Absolutely no hesitations in recommending Fran :)
