Tutor Profile

Tania

Tania

I am a 25 year old PhD researcher in biophysics at the University of Bristol and have been tutoring for 4 years. I am passionate about teaching science, boosting confidence in exams and helping students get the grades they need for their future plans. I hold a 1st class with distinction Master’s degree in Natural Sciences Specialising in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (MSci), during which I published 1st author research in Biophysics. My degree was centred on interdisciplinary science where I studied all three subjects (including almost all A level topics) to a high university level. I achieved 3 As in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics A level, and As at GCSE. I have channelled my love for these subjects, my teaching skills and my knowledge and 1st hand experience of exam technique into a tutoring program that will support you through your GCSE and A level journeys and help you achieve your absolute best.

Teaching Experience

I have been tutoring A level and GCSE students for 3 years in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This includes lesson planning, progress tracking and marking exam practice papers. I have worked with students coming from a wide range of stages in their studies and ability levels. I am experienced teaching OCR, AQA and Edexcel exam boards. I also have been a teaching assistant for University Undergraduate students in Biochemistry and Mathematics for 4 years.

Tutoring Approach

My lessons are student-centred. They are tailored to the tutee’s specific goals and needs and adapted continuously as they progress. I create a friendly and engaging atmosphere where tutee’s feel safe to ask any questions and make mistakes as they learn. I work together with the student as a team to best prepare them to face their exams with knowledge, technique and confidence.

My general approach is to begin by establishing which topics and exam style Qs the student struggles with most with. I deliver lessons designed to support the difficult areas and fill in gaps often missed in school-wide teaching. Over the summer period I focus on using this valuable time to get ahead on the most difficult topics as well as catch-up on current problem-areas. Closer to mock and real exams I primarily focusing on past-paper practice to develop good exam technique which is often the key to unlocking higher grades. I mark the tutee’s papers to invigilator standards, providing feedback beyond mark schemes which is specific to the tutee’s style and method of working.

Tutees join me at all stages of their journey, some from the very start where we work through all content and mock exams together, and some just weeks before their exams for extra support and paper practice. My approach is highly flexible and the tutee is always welcome to ask for specific lesson topics or styles at any point along the way. I specialise in online tutoring and have developed effective and efficient methods for delivering content digitally. This approach allows a large level of flexibility for scheduling, allowing us to add and change lessons as needed. The tutee is not required to have any digital writing equipment (just a browser, pen and calculator!) as I can adapt my techniques depending on their available resources.
