Hi, I'm Oliver, 4+ Years Tutoring Experience and previous Curriculum Coordinator at an after-school centre.

I'm a specialist Maths and Further Maths tutor working with students at GCSE and A-Level, online and in person. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Manchester, achieved A/A* at A-Level in Maths and Further Maths, and have a current enhanced DBS check.

In my experience, students typically struggle with maths due to a lack of confidence rather than a lack of ability, usually the result of a few specific gaps from previous years. My approach is to identify and close those gaps first, so that when a student is in the classroom, they can be confident and reach their potential.

Previously, I taught at an after-school learning centre, teaching Maths from KS3 through to KS5. My responsibilities grew over time and I became Curriculum Coordinator for Maths and Sciences. I've tutored privately since 2022, online and in person, and now do so full-time.

I work across the major specifications and maintain my own resources for each: Edexcel, OCR, AQA and WJEC. My materials include specification-mapped revision checklists, schemes of work and practice papers with full mark schemes, so lessons align with exactly what your child's exam board will ask.

With a new student I begin with an initial meeting, involving both student and parent, to understand where they are currently struggling (specific topics, confidence, etc.). I then set a short unit test to gauge the current level, and build a lesson plan around the student's goals.

Lessons follow a three-part structure. The first 15 to 20 minutes covers the content, where I explain the theory and go through some examples. We then work through questions together, building in difficulty throughout the lesson. I have students attempt questions first before stepping in, and ask them to talk through their reasoning as they go. Each lesson ends with a feedback session, where I ask them to explain what we've covered in their own words and we review anything they're still finding challenging.

Between lessons I offer an optional worksheet with a mark scheme and written feedback, and I stay in contact with parents throughout the year, adapting lessons towards whatever is proving hardest in their classes. For exam-year students I teach technique alongside content: time management, structuring answers to secure method marks, and reading questions for what the examiner is actually asking. My main goal is to support students through their school work, so they feel confident in the classroom and not only in our sessions
