Tutor Profile

Emma

Private Biology and Psychology Tutor in Maidenhead

My name is Emma and I am a highly experienced teacher of +15 years. I love working with young people and getting them to feel as excited as I do about studying Biology and Psychology!

For me, learning is a joy and a privilege and something we should be excited about! Sadly, this joy gets lost with the stress of exams and coursework in school and so my mission is to help students find their excitement again through engaging and supportive lessons.

Teaching Experience

I qualified with a PGCE back in 2010 at University College London's Institute of Education, and since then I have taught at amazing independent schools in London, Beijing and Bangkok. During my career I have been Head of Years 10/11; Lead Teacher in Biology and Psychology; and Head of Psychology.

When I returned to the UK four years ago I decided to leave the school environment and start up a full-time tutoring business - EP Tutoring - allowing me lots of focused time to design, develop and teach small-group and 1:1 lessons for my tutees. My goal is always to excite, engage and support my students!

Tutoring Approach

My approach is very personal and individualised: I always like to chat on the phone with students and parents before we start our tutoring journey together, to help you get a feel for my tutoring style and for me to best understand your needs. Every lesson I teach looks different as no two students will have the exact same needs. I keep a shared summary of every lesson for student and parent to track how we are progressing and to share any resources from class. I encourage an open dialogue between all parties so that we are always working in the way that works best for you.

A caring and balanced approach is also important to me. I believe students are already under far too much pressure in the school environment and I certainly don’t want to add to that. So my goal is always to SUPPORT, both academically and mentally. Sometimes this extends to worried parents too!

If this sounds like an approach that interests you, please get in touch as I’d be happy to help!

Emma is so helpful during our sessions having worked me up from an E to a C since the summer. She's always willing to go over content that I'm not sure about and reviews questions with me after to make sure that I fully understand the topic before we move on.
