Tutor Profile

Simon

Simon

I am a full time teacher at the specialist maths school "King`s College London Mathematics School", where I have worked for eleven years teaching A Level Computer Science. My role has also involved mathematics outreach for y10 and y11 students.

Before working in a school, I studied for a PhD in Mathematics (Algebraic Number Theory), where I took on a range of tutorials for undergraduate mathematics students. These were mainly based on 1st and 2nd year modules, covering introductory calculus, analysis, linear and abstract algebra, and statistics.

Before that I achieved a 1st class degree in MSci Mathematics from Imperial College London.

Teaching Experience

Aside from my day job teaching A Level Computer Science, I have five years tutoring experience of GCSE Mathematics, as well as A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics (Edexcel, OCR and MEI). In addition, I have ten years experience supporting students with mathematics admissions tests (TMUA and STEP, and previously MAT), both at the school I work at, as well as privately.

Tutoring Approach

I take a very socratic and collaborative approach to learning, encouraging students to explore rather than just "telling them the answer", which comes from my classroom teaching.

This is of course backed up with encouragement and praise along the way to solving problems.
