Satvinder

Private English and Maths Tutor in Birmingham

An experienced teacher and tutor with over 20 years of experience helping children achieve their full potential.

I’m Satvinder, a qualified teacher and experienced tutor with a real passion for helping children make progress and understand what they are learning.

I hold a PGCE from the University of Warwick and a BSc in Psychology. Over the past 20 years I have worked with children of different ages and abilities, supporting them with primary and secondary English and maths, 11+ preparation and school assessments.

I specialise in 11+ preparation, covering maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. I also provide support with KS2 SATs, homework and building strong foundations in English and maths.

My teaching is tailored to each individual child. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I identify the areas a child finds challenging and break them down into clear and manageable steps. I use explanation, modelling, questioning and plenty of practice to help children develop a secure understanding.

Having worked with so many children over the years I understand that progress isn’t always about simply doing more work. It’s about identifying exactly what a child needs help with and teaching it in a way that makes sense to them.

I’m passionate about helping children become more independent learners and seeing that moment when something that once seemed difficult finally clicks.

I’m proud to have received over 120 reviews from parent and I value the trust families place in me to support their children.

Whether your child is preparing for the 11+, working towards their KS2 SATs, needs additional support with English or maths or simply needs a little extra help to stay on track I’m here to provide structured and individualised support every step of the way.

Teaching Experience

I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience**, working with children across primary and secondary education as well as pupils preparing for the 11+ entrance exams.

Throughout my teaching career I have supported children with a wide range of abilities and learning needs. I have taught primary and secondary English and maths as well as verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning for 11+ preparation.

My experience includes helping children prepare for KS2 SATs, school assessments and grammar school entrance exams. I also provide homework support and targeted tuition to help children strengthen areas where they may be struggling.

I have taught both one-to-one and small group lessons, online and face to face. My lessons are carefully adapted to suit each child’s individual needs and I use clear explanations, step-by-step teaching and regular practice to help children make progress.

Over the years I have worked with children from a wide range of starting points and I take great pride in helping them develop their knowledge, skills and independence as learners.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is centred around understanding each child as an individual. Every child learns differently so I take the time to identify their strengths, understand the areas they find challenging and tailor my lessons accordingly.

I break topics down into clear and manageable steps and explain concepts in a way that is easy for the child to understand. I use questioning, modelling and plenty of practice to check understanding and help children apply what they have learned independently.

I believe that strong foundations are essential. Rather than simply moving on when a child is struggling with a topic I take the time to identify any gaps in their understanding and work on these before progressing.

For 11+ preparation I use a structured approach covering maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. I regularly monitor progress and adapt lessons to focus on the areas that will have the greatest impact.

My aim is to make lessons engaging, purposeful and productive while helping children become more independent and develop the skills they need to succeed both in their exams and in their wider education.

I cannot recommend Saty highly enough. She has been supporting my daughter online for just over a year now, and the progress we’ve seen in that time has been incredible. When my daughter left Year 6 she was slightly below the expected level in English, but Saty met her exactly where she was and has supported her patiently and thoughtfully ever since. She is wonderful, supportive, professional, and extremely reliable, and she consistently goes above and beyond. What really stands out is how she adapts her teaching to my daughter’s needs and pace, always guiding her to achieve the very best she can without ever pushing too hard. Because of this, my daughter is not only improving academically but is also becoming much more confident in her abilities. Saty shows real dedication to her students. When she was aware of the book my daughter was currently studying at school Saty also read the full book herself so she could fully support my daughter. That level of commitment truly says everything about how much she cares. My daughter is now thriving, enjoying English far more, and growing in confidence each week. We feel incredibly lucky to have found such an outstanding tutor and I really cannot thank her enough for the support, encouragement, and care she has given over the past year.

Satvinder has been tutoring my 9 year old daughter in Maths and English in preparation for 11+. My daughter’s confidence was quite low, but now seems to be improving with Satvinder’s guidance. She is highly knowledgeable in primary education, and seems to have a strong grasp of childhood psychology - helpful in our case. The feedback I receive is very detailed, and has helped me target certain areas of weakness so we can work together to help her reach her targets in a less stressful manor. I would highly recommend. Thank you!
