Private English and Entrance Exams Tutor in Beverley

Cambridge University educated, fully-qualified teacher P.G.C.E QTS available to tutor in English Language, English Literature, French, Spanish, Italian and EFL. Tutoring all levels from KS2 upwards and also an experienced 11+, 13+ and Entrance Exams English tutor. KS3, KS4 and KS5 and all the main exam boards at G.C.S.E, I.G.C.S.E and A`Level including AQA and Edexcel. I offer in person and online tuition to students, many of whom I prepare for the academically selective school admission process. I also deliver EAL/EFL tuition to international students who are preparing for Entrance Examinations and/or IELTS and support EAL students already at top independent schools in the UK. I have particular experience with students whose first language is Chinese, helping them to elevate their vocabulary and writing skills. I have also designed and taught small group courses for children aiming for 11+ or 13+ and examples of these courses are Vocabulary Enrichment; Creative Writing; Persuasive Writing and Reading Comprehension Skills.

Teaching Experience

I have many years of teaching and tutoring experience in both English Language, English Literature and Modern Foreign Languages. I hold UK Qualified Teacher Status QTS and have taught in both UK Secondary and Primary Schools. I have extensive experience of boosting students' G.C.S.E. grades up to +3 to grade 9 or from a low starting grade to a strong pass. I achieve this by focusing on exam strategy and applying the assessment objectives to your answers. I have also successfully prepared pupils for interviews and entrance examinations at top independent schools. Currently, I also deliver EAL and exam support to international students in UK independent schools, including interview preparation.

Tutoring Approach

My online lessons always have a clear objective and I enhance lessons with power points, live lesson chat, interactive whiteboard and worksheets, to make learning effective and engaging. I also enjoy creating my own bespoke teaching resources and share these with my students. I always set homework, unless not requested, in order to assess learning, measure progress and inform future lesson planning. For all school curriculum and exam tutoring I provide parents with regular progress updates and make available a range of supplementary material. I also provide my own model answers for further guidance, which students have found very helpful. While the focus is always to deepen your knowledge and understanding, we might need to fill any gaps in your knowledge as and when they arise. I also offer an initial free "meet and greet" session to discuss your learning needs, make a learning plan and, of course, for you to ask any questions.

My daughter had about 12 hrs tuition with Wendy just prior to sitting her GCSEs. She improved by 3 grades in English Lit and 2 grades in English language. Wendy was very supportive and we would recommend her. Thanks

Excellent tutor, helped my son to achieve 9 in GCSE. English is not his favourite subject and was pulling him down with grades. He really enjoyed his lessons with Miss. Wendy. Very committed tutor and he couldn’t have done this without her guidance and support. Our heartfelt thanks

Tutor response

You're very welcome. Your son was a pleasure to teach and I'm sure he going to do well in all his studies as he starts his A levels.

I can not recommend Wendy enough for anybody serious about improving their French. My son has just received a 9 for GCSE French, when 2 years ago he was being predicted a 3. This massive change was of course in conjunction with his school lessons, however the weekly tutorial with Wendy made a massive difference in his French ability and confidence. I am 100% sure a 9 would not have been possible without Wendy's excellent tuition.

Tutor response

Thanks for your feedback. It was great to teach your son across years 10 and 11 and see his French flourish.
