Tutor Profile

Alex

Private Physics and Maths Tutor in Coventry

I am an ambitious and high-achieving A-Level student, studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and History, predicted to attain an A* grade in each.

I am friendly and personable - my sessions will aim to be engaging and enjoyable, and develop a greater in the student appreciation for the subject as well as improving their grades.

Having completed GCSE exams very recently and still being a student, I am familiar with the exam process and what is required to succeed. This also enables empathy; I understand the student experience as well as the subject experience.

Teaching Experience

This is my first tutoring job, so feedback is welcome and appreciated!

I have worked as a 'Maths Mentor' at my school, in which I succeeded in improving the grade of a struggling Year 11 pupil. I will likely repeat this endeavour in the coming academic year.

I have experience working with children in a voluntary capacity at my local library and a local primary school. While admittedly not immediately relevant to GCSE tutoring, it has helped me understand what approaches can be used to stimulate learning experiences.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that the path to improvement begins with engagement. A student cannot adequately improve their grade in a subject if they are not first engaging with the material they are learning.

Students are engaged with content that they can grasp. Therefore, I believe it is important to break down concepts into their most simple stages, reinforcing the foundations so that students feel confident in their ability.

I, like many students, prefer learning using visual aids and/or colours to clarify concepts - I hope to carry this into my tutoring. When classes are taught to many students at once, an individual student's preferred method of learning (in my case using colours), is often overlooked. With one-on-one tutoring, I hope to tap into students' individual methods of learning to facilitate improvement.
