I am an English tutor with over 20 years’ experience of teaching in high schools and over 10 years’ experience of tutoring and GCSE exam marking. I am happy to provide both on-line and in person tutoring.

I have a broad range of experience both in and out of the classroom. I have taught English in high schools for over 20 years, working with Years 7-13 and covering GCSE and A level English literature and language. I have led a busy and successful English department for much of that time. For the last 10 years, I’ve been working as a tutor covering a wide range of GCSE exam boards. I have also worked, for several years, as a GCSE exam marker so I have a very good understanding of the demands of the curriculum and the exams.

I offer support that is carefully tailored to the needs of your child. I have an excellent track record of supporting young people to develop confidence in English, to find more enjoyment in the subject and to make more rapid progress towards goals. When we first meet, I’ll ask your child about their experience in English lessons and why you’ve decided to look for a tutor. We’ll talk about the things your child enjoys as well as the things they find challenging and this will help me to adapt my teaching to suit their needs and interests. I will keep in regular contact with you and we’ll keep reviewing the way that we work to make sure that the lessons continue to benefit your child.
