Private Entrance Exams and History Tutor in London

I am a doctoral researcher in History at the University of Oxford and an experienced private tutor. I am able to teach both History and English Literature and have particular expertise in helping students prepare for university applications.

Teaching Experience

I hold a First Class BA from UCL and completed my MA (with Distinction) at Humboldt University Berlin, funded by a DAAD scholarship. I’m currently working towards a DPhil in History at the University of Oxford, supported by an AHRC studentship.

My academic work has been recognised with several major prizes, including the World History Association Graduate Essay Award, the Victorian Review’s Hamilton Prize, the Michael Sprinker Memorial Prize, and the Ebor Lectures Award. I have also received awards for literary and journalistic writing, including the New Statesman/Webb Memorial Trust Essay Prize, and was a finalist for the Hubert Butler Essay Prize.

My subject specialisms include modern European intellectual and cultural history, the history of empire, political thought, English and comparative literature, and political science. I also enjoy working with students who want to explore humanities or social science subjects beyond the curriculum, purely for the love of learning and independent thinking.

As a Teaching Assistant at both Freie Universität and Humboldt Universität in Berlin, I taught undergraduate students study skills, research methods, and essay-writing techniques. I have experience marking coursework, leading seminars, and mentoring students through essays, presentations, and dissertations. In addition, I have worked for several years as a private tutor, supporting students in a variety of humanities subjects, at GCSE, A-Level, and undergraduate level. I have also helped many students prepare successful UCAS and other university applications, including personal statements and interview preparation. Former students have gone on to secure places at a range of prestigious UK and international universities.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is highly personalised, and lessons are structured around your individual needs. In our initial sessions, I will work with you to identify your goals and design a study plan that reflects your current strengths and areas for improvement. I’m happy to help you build the skills needed to succeed across a wide range of subjects.

I can assist with essay planning, exam preparation, revision strategies, coursework support, and personal statement or interview coaching. I am particularly experienced in helping students improve clarity and structure in their writing. These core skills are essential not only for exams but for long-term academic and intellectual growth.

My aim is not only to help students succeed in a particular exam or assignment, but to raise their academic level more broadly and equip them with the tools for independent, critical thinking.
