Hello! I'm Kay Lynn (double barreled first name), and I am a recent graduate from UCL (First Class Honours). I am a writer and director for theatre, with a love for literature, theatre, and the arts in general.

I have been a tutor since 2022, teaching English (essay writing and reading comprehension) at secondary/GCSE and A-Level standard. I have also taught English Literature, Maths, and History at secondary/GCSE level. I am originally from Singapore and so was teaching the Singaporean syllabus, which is internationally recognized as rigorous. I am able to teach the UK syllabus, but I believe my experience with the Singaporean one as well makes me a more well-rounded tutor. I have a track record of bringing my students from barely passing to As.

I am bilingual, also speaking Mandarin Chinese, and able to connect with a student who needs support in that language if necessary.

I am an online tutor, and have been since 2023. In my lessons, I use a combination of Google Meets/Zoom and a digital whiteboard. I believe that my students should be empowered to take charge of their own learning, and so my approach is to give them every resource I can to facilitate that. This includes guiding them through reading a news article to teach argumentation structures, or guiding them through creating their own study materials (quote banks for English Literature, for example). Every student is different and I am adaptable in my teaching methods. It may take a few sessions but I believe it is always possible to find an approach that makes learning both enjoyable and effective for a student. I am able to do both exam prep and general skills-focused teaching. I also have experience taking the SAT (for American university applications) and may be able to advise on that as well.
