I help students get great GCSE and iGCSE Science grades.
A Qualified Science Teacher (Biology & Chemistry specialist), I have worked in academia and the education sector for over fifteen years. I have a BSc in Biomedical Science and MSc in Medical Microbiology.
I have over a decade of UK classroom teaching and tutoring experience with a focus on GCSE and IGCSE students. My goal is simple - to help students who struggle with science develop confidence and pass their exams.
I have taught at both state and independent schools helping students prepare for GCSE and iGCSE exams.
I am the Lead Tutor of an online tutoring Academy where we help students jump 2-3 grades in GCSE Maths and Science.
My mission goes beyond academic excellence; I help students develop the personal and interpersonal skills necessary for long-term success and fulfilment beyond the classroom.
I have worked with students from a range of backgrounds and abilities including tutoring students identified as underachieving. As a Qualified Teacher, I am fully conversant with all major exam boards (Pearson Edexcel, AQA, OCR and iGCSE Edexcel and Cambridge (CIE). My specialism are Biology and Chemistry.
I teach GCSE and iGCSE Combined Science (Double Award) including physics and GCSE and iGCSE Biology and Chemistry.
I help children master the foundational concepts so that they can easily build upon their knowledge.
My lessons are interleaved with questions and other assessment tasks as well as frequent end of unit exam questions. All this helps to assess the child’s progress and improve memory retention and learning. I also work on practising exam papers as it helps consolidate learning and dissipate children’s fears around examinations.
My tutoring sessions are built largely around student’s weaknesses. I identify how each child learn best and teach them using more of that method. I also use everyday examples to explain key concepts which helps build confidence and increase the child’s love and understanding for the subject.
My son really enjoys his lessons with Sylvia and finds them extremely helpful. The sessions are well structured, and Sylvia explains everything in a way that makes sense. His confidence in Chemistry has grown so much, and he recently got an attainment of 85% in chemistry. I’d highly recommend Sylvia as a science tutor.
Sylvia worked with our neurodivergent daughter in Biology at a GCSE level. She was always receptive to learning styles and created a nice package, building on a visual learning style. Sylvia clearly knows what she is doing and used her experience effectively to create engaging sessions. Would recommend.

Sylvia has been fantastic with my son. When he first started, he was struggling with confidence in science and finding school lessons hard to follow. Sylvia quickly tailored lessons to his needs, explained concepts clearly, and set just the right challenges. Since then, his grades have jumped from 5s to 7s/8s, and more importantly, he now truly believes he’s good at science.
Sylvia is a brilliant tutor. My 7yr old son needed to improve his maths and even though in year 2 is now doing year 3 maths at his school thanks in a big way to Sylvias calm and brilliant way of teaching 1-2-1 maths. My son has a learning disability, but sylvia helps him to focus and he now loves maths
