My teaching focuses on drawing, sculpture, and mixed-media art, following three stages: Observation – Method – Creation.
I believe observation is the foundation of art and a skill that can be trained. In drawing, we might explore how the environment affects the colours of light and shadow, or learn to simplify complex images in our minds before drawing them. In sculpture, we might practise understanding an object’s complete form from different viewpoints. Through these exercises, I will help you develop both observational skills and fundamental art knowledge.
Once you discover something beautiful, the next question is: how do you make it? Based on your observations and creative goals, I will guide you through choosing tools, materials, and techniques. From drawing fundamentals and oil painting to building armatures, wood carving, mould-making and casting, you will develop the skills and confidence to choose the right medium for your own ideas.
When you feel confident with your ideas, I will encourage you to create boldly. Hair might become part of a sketch; a sculpture might be designed to be worn and become part of your body; a doghouse might even become a small temple. Let your imagination run free and create something uniquely yours.
Through my guidance, I hope you will discover that art is much closer to you than you might think.
