I’m a mathematician, tutor and professional musician with a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of Exeter. Before my PhD, I studied Mathematics at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, graduating with 110/110 magna cum laude.

My passion for mathematics began through Mathematical Olympiads, where I achieved international-level success. I went on to specialise academically in algebra and number theory, first as a student and later as a postdoctoral researcher.

I now particularly enjoy helping students discover the creative side of mathematics. I teach from GCSE and A-level through to university level, and I’m especially interested in helping students develop the confidence to tackle problems they haven't seen before.

I have around ten years of experience teaching and tutoring mathematics. I first began teaching formally while still at school, helping classmates prepare for Mathematical Olympiads, and started private tutoring during my first years at university.

Since then, I have taught students from Year 7 through to Master's level, including GCSE, A-level and Further Maths. I have experience with the major UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR, as well as university mathematics.

Alongside private tutoring, my teaching experience includes teaching in higher education during my academic career. I hold a Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and have worked with students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles.

I believe mathematics is best learned through understanding rather than memorising procedures. My aim is not simply to show students how to get an answer, but to help them understand why a method works and develop the confidence to use it independently.

I adapt lessons to each student. We might identify gaps in their knowledge, work through examples together, practise exam questions, or explore more challenging problems depending on their goals.

I particularly like introducing variations on familiar problems and encouraging students to ask “what if?” This develops the flexibility and creativity needed to tackle unfamiliar questions. Above all, I want students to leave lessons feeling that mathematics is something they can understand, explore and succeed at.
