Tutor Profile

Isaac

Private Guitar and Composition Tutor in Glasgow

I am a composer, sound designer, and music educator holding a First Class Honours degree in Music Composition from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Alongside my professional creative practice, I provide focused online tuition in Music Theory, Composition, and Music Production.

My lessons cater to a wide spectrum of learners, from secondary school pupils targeting top grades in their SQA National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher music exams, to instrumentalists preparing for ABRSM/Trinity theory grades, and aspiring creators wanting to master digital audio workstations (Ableton Live, Logic) and sound design.

Teaching Experience

I have extensive experience delivering one-to-one tuition in academic and creative music disciplines:

SQA Exam & Curriculum Support: Guiding National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher students through past papers, concept literacy, melodic/harmonic analysis, and composition folio preparation.

Graded Music Theory: Preparing students across all levels for ABRSM and Trinity College London theory examinations (Grades 1–5+).

Composition & Creative Production: Mentoring emerging musicians and producers in track arrangement, harmony, digital synthesis, sequencing, and conservatoire/university portfolio development.

Online Delivery: Skilled in high-fidelity remote instruction utilizing direct digital score markups, clean screen-sharing, and loss-free DAW audio routing.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching prioritizes clarity, student engagement, and practical application over dry memorization:

Demystifying Theory: Rather than treating theory as abstract rules, I connect harmonic and analytical concepts directly to the music the student actually listens to and plays.

Collaborative & Low-Pressure: Learning is tailored to each student's pace and goals. We start by identifying specific friction points—whether that is transposition, voice leading, or structuring an original composition—and map out a clear, step-by-step roadmap.

Constructive Feedback: For creative folio work, I focus on helping students develop their authentic artistic voice while ensuring their submissions meet all formal exam board and portfolio marking criteria.
