Hello, I live in Sunderland. I have a B A (Hons) degree and a Certificate in Education specialising in Maths and English and I have also attended relevant courses (for example in Dyslexia Awareness) and have a Counselling certificate.
I have had approximately 30 years experience of teaching English and Maths and this has included helping pupils to prepare for the SATs tests and for GCSEs. I have worked with children and adults on a one to one basis and in groups and fully understand the needs of both.
I have had extensive experience teaching in schools and am therefore familiar with the requirements of the national curriculum at key stages 1, 2 3 and 4.
I also have a vast array of resources and past exam papers and can also create resources that are tailor made for a specific pupil.
I enjoy working creatively and will tailor learning to the particular interests of the pupil if necessary as I feel that this makes learning more interesting and meaningful for them. I have established excellent relationships with pupils in the past and have a sensitive, caring and thoughtful approach.
In the first session I carry out an assessment in order to get an idea of the needs of the pupil and use this as a trial session. Pupils don't have to continue unless they are happy with everything
f you need to cancel giving less than 24 hours notice then unfortunately I have to charge for the session as I will have prepared for it
Helen has been working with my daughter on firstly her maths and she has gained confidence in this subject which she has always struggled with. We asked Helen if she could also support my daughter with english language this has been of fantastic benefit and has seen her grades increase which i believe has been the support of Helen. Helen has a very structured way of learning which helps sophie stay focused. We as a family are grateful and are hopeful for successful exam results which probably wouldn't have been possible.

Thanks for this review I am enjoying working with her
My daughter only had one lesson with Helen. Helen was lovely and made her feel comfortable straight away. The only reason for not continuing the tuition is my daughter requires face to face support and sadly we don’t live locally to Helen.

Thank you for this Ashleigh Wishing your daughter all the best in her future lessons
Helen was a great help supporting our daughter with preparation for her maths GCSE. Helen was very professional and put our daughter at ease. She was excellent at explaining the topics and definitely helped her achieve a higher grade. We would definitely recommend Helen to anyone looking for additional tuition in mathematics.

Thanks for your feedback Christine It was a pleasure
Helen is very friendly and approachable. She has managed to help my home schooled daughter who was very worried about her exams in May and get her to a point where she has confidence in Maths. Now my daughter has a feeling that she can pass in the same way that her friends at school will and i am very grateful for that. Only personal circumstances mean that I'm not continuing with the tutoring until May not any other reason. I would heartily recommend Helen if you are looking for a knowledgeable, kind hearted and approachable tutor for your children.
