Private Maths and Further Maths Tutor in Southall

I completed an undergraduate degree in Mathematics with Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2021, in which I achieved First Class Honours - averaging 83% in my final year Mathematics modules. I completed my A-Levels in 2018, achieving 3 A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Economics.

I have always been passionate about Mathematics from early academia and the passion has never left me! It fills me with joy when students tell me how useful my support and teaching has been for them and to see their academic progression over time. I was also a tutee during my early academia and so I have experienced the benefits of a guided tutor who can provide that additional support to fill in the gaps that are required to reach one's full potential!

I am able to tutor Mathematics from primary school up to A-Level and can tutor Further Mathematics at GCSE and A-Level too. Please note that my rate for A-Level Further Mathematics is £50 per hour and I request that the minimum duration for A-Level Further Maths lesson is 1 hour 30 minutes due to the complexity of the material to cover.

I only travel up to 3 miles from UB1 (Southall) by road and for any longer distances, I charge an extra £1.50 for every mile travelled. However, there is flexibility and I’m open to discussions to reach mutually acceptable outcomes.

Teaching Experience

I started tutoring after graduating and I've got 5 years experience tutoring all levels of Mathematics, from KS1 all the way up to A-Level.

I've had experience of both teaching and mentoring students that needed additional support in their Mathematics study, through the NRICH programme.

I've been an assistant to teachers in student support sessions for GCSE and A Level Mathematics, helping them prepare resources and teaching students having difficulty grasping the syllabus material.

At university, I've taken part in one-to-one office hours where I've answered student queries relating to the syllabus material and provided short recaps of topics to summarise them or solidify a student's understanding.

Tutoring Approach

Personally, I take an adaptable and encouraging approach towards tutoring. I believe in making students feel comfortable to ask questions about Mathematics, regardless of the complexity, and to explore their passion for the subject.

I aim to implement a style which teaches according to the student's needs, qualities and preferences as this creates confidence and growth in their ability. I feel it is very important to not overwhelm a student with material, but rather to gradually increase the information taught according to the complexity and student's progression, which will also be in line with their personal revision outside of lessons.

I am a strong believer in practicing exam style questions and understanding the syllabus material, rather than memorising a method or approach. In Mathematics, I've found that many methods work in some cases, and don't apply in other cases - especially at university level, where assumptions are required to use theorems or methods! Hence, I believe in improving a student's understanding of a method or topic to ensure they are able to avoid common mistakes and even better: understand why and where they've made a mistake, which made their answer incorrect. Hence, my approach encourages giving homework or practice questions (if the student / parent or guardian agrees or requests) to test and solidify the student's learning, alongside with guidance and feedback on it.

I've always tried to teach/support in an unique way by using my own style and materials when assisting teachers and students in secondary school and university. I strongly believe that this improves the student's ability as they are able to learn the same topic through different styles and hence I provide this in my tutoring lessons too.

After each week, if the student completes the homework for that week, I send a marked version of their homework attempt and produce a homework summary, which includes feedback. In addition, I also provide recommendations on next steps e.g. revising a topic, going over the additional notes, re-doing a particular question. Where necessary, I provide fully worked solutions with guidance comments, alongside tips and alternative methods.
