Tutor Profile

Samea

Private English and Maths Tutor in Loughton

Employed as an educator since 2002 – first in youth work and, from 2015, in formal education – I believe that positive relationships of mutual trust and respect are the basis of effective learning.

Coupled with fact that I teach a wide variety of subjects, the relationships I foster result in my students staying with me till the very possible end of our learning journey together, returning to me for support with university assignments and for guidance about work and careers, and keeping me busy with all the new students they refer to me.

I attended Oxford University to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics but actually graduated from UCL with a BA Hons in Philosophy and Economics. I acquired a PGCE from University of Edinburgh while working as Youth Participatory Projects Manager. I underwent teacher training in secondary schools with the PGCE element delivered by Goldsmiths College.

In youth work, I developed and delivered youth projects that provided young people professional mentorship and the skills to undertake every aspect of the process – most of them arts based; film, theatre, visual arts, and some with a heritage focus. Ultimately I compiled a handbook for youth workers to use in the delivery of arts based youth work.

Beyond that I have worked in most sectors: insurance, retail, hospitality, logistics and ran my own business delivering arts and crafts workshops in care homes. I use all this professional and lived experience to inspire, enthuse and motivate my students to achieve their best academically and in their wider development.

Teaching Experience

As a private tutor since 2015, my practice has organically extended to all ages and a multitude of subjects. Students studying one subject with me asked me to tutor them on other subjects. Families whose children I tutored through GCSEs or A Levels retained me for their younger children.

In 2016-17, I trained as a teacher, gaining experience in classroom delivery within secondary schools and increasing my knowledge and understanding of assessments. I have practised as a teacher and a tutor in secondary schools, supporting KS3, GCSE, and A-Level students through the curriculum.

I have tutored students of all abilities. Since I started my youth work career in Social Inclusion, supporting neurodivergent students and SEND provision is second nature to me. A lot of my students fall in these categories and I tend to tutor the younger ones for the long term - 7 years being the current record. I am particularly proud of having helped SEND students achieve higher than was expected of them or those resitting exams finally succeed by using learning and exam strategies which we developed together to fit their specific needs.

Mentoring high ability students is another aspect of tutoring I am well experienced in. I love sharing my knowledge or going on learning journeys with them to extend their knowledge and understanding of the topic beyond what school can provide; being the coach that makes them stretch their intellectual ability to its furthest extent; being a whetstone they can sharpen ideas and reasoning against. The A and A* grades they bring home at the end of it all are a lovely bonus. And having them return to ask for support with their university assignments is an honour.

Homeschooling has become more and more popular so naturally I have provided the more comprehensive teaching that requires. I enjoy having the freedom of planning and pacing the course content and assessment preparation to best fit the student. That I am the only teacher responsible for their lovely final grade is rather satisfying.

Tutoring Approach

Every student is a unique individual and has their own particular development needs so my approach to teaching is to respond to their individual needs.

I provide learning sessions that build upon students' strengths and interests to support their learning. I source, modify or develop learning resources that will be relevant to and engaging for each learner.

I agree learning aims with learners - suited to their abilities but informed by my high standards. I routinely monitor their progress, from school feedback and my own assessments, and adjust aims accordingly. Ultimately, I develop revision and assessment strategies suited to the learner in partnership with them.

My aim for every learner is for them to be confident in their understanding and knowledge of the subject matter and to develop learning and assessment skills they can transfer across to others subjects.

I strive for every learner to aspire to their best, to have the confidence to achieve their goals, and develop a lifelong love for learning. You will choose me because you want a tutor that supports not just the subject but the whole person.

Samea supported me during my A-level’s for English and History (2018). She took the time to understand my learning style and tailored her teaching accordingly, which helped me engage more effectively. She consistently encouraged my strengths and reminded me of them while also identifying areas for improvement. Samea was punctual and friendly. She created a comfortable environment. At the beginning of each lesson, Samea would ask if there were any specific topics or areas I wanted to focus on, ensuring that our sessions were personalised and productive. She also taught me essay-writing structures, which improved the quality of my written work. No question ever felt too silly, and she was always willing to explain concepts until I fully understood them. In addition, Samea provided examination tips that increased my confidence and preparedness for exams. I was able to pass my exams and progress further. I would recommend Samea as a tutor!

I cannot recommend Samea highly enough. She tutored me and my three siblings in English and History for our GCSE and A-levels over a number of years, and her support played a huge role in all of our academic success. Most recently, with her guidance, I achieved an A* in A-Level English and an A in A-Level History, and I have since gone on to study Law at the London School of Economics (LSE). Her teaching style is engaging, clear, and incredibly adaptive- she always tailored lessons to suit our individual strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. I particularly received help in covering core content, developing strong exam writing skills and completing coursework. She was patient, encouraging, and consistently went above and beyond to ensure we fully understood the content and felt confident in our abilities. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any student looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and highly effective tutor.

We found Samea two years ago when our daughter was struggling to connect with history at school. What followed has been one of the best decisions we’ve made for her education. Samea is everything you want in a tutor: deeply knowledgeable, reliably professional, and genuinely inspiring. She didn’t just help our daughter memorise dates and facts; she made history feel alive and relevant. Sessions were engaging, well-structured, and clearly tailored to how our daughter thinks and learns. The results speak for themselves: a 9 in her GCSE History. But more than the grade, our daughter now loves the subject. She reads about history independently, brings it up in conversation, and is considering it at A-Level. That shift in attitude is entirely down to Samea’s skill and enthusiasm as a teacher. We would recommend her without a moment’s hesitation to any parent looking for a tutor who genuinely makes a difference.

I have been working with Samea the past 3 years and I can definitely say she is the best tutor I have had. I have had previous tutors but the work she has put in with me the effort , the way she structures her sessions and focuses on finding my weaknesses and improving them is second to none. She is so well prepared always comes having a multitude of points to make and with her I have achieved really great results. I couldn’t recommend her more.

Thank you for your continued support. Talking of good notes... You forgot to mention subject (History) and levels (A Levels and Undergraduate). 😅 Anyway, back to your essay!

We'd recommend Samea very highly, having used her tutoring service to support and assist our elder daughter with her GCSE English. When she started sessions with Samea, she was predicted Grade 3 and lacked confidence in the subject matter. Regular sessions with Samea focused on exam technique and over time built confidence, transforming our daughter's ability to the extent that she achieved Grades 7 and 8, and is now studying English at A Level, with a new-found love of reading and literature. What sets Samea apart is her ability to strike the right balance between being encouraging and patient, and being firm when focus needed to be maintained. Our daughter understood what was expected of her and Samea's combination of support and structure made all the difference. Her sessions were purposeful and well-directed, clearly demonstrating her ability to get the best out of a young person. We are so grateful for all that Samea did. She's an exceptional tutor.
