Experienced Maths Tutor Helping Students Build Confidence

I am a passionate and enthusiastic Maths teacher and tutor who genuinely enjoys helping students succeed. I have always found it incredibly rewarding to see a student move from saying “I can't do this” to confidently tackling a problem independently.

After many years in education, my passion for teaching remains strong. I particularly value the relationships I build with students and the opportunity to celebrate their successes, whether that is understanding a topic for the first time, improving a test result, achieving a GCSE grade they are proud of, or simply becoming more confident in their own ability.

I believe that Maths should not be something students fear. With the right support and encouragement, students can develop the skills and confidence to become successful mathematicians.

If your child is struggling with Maths, lacking confidence or simply wants to achieve more, I would be delighted to help them develop their understanding, build their confidence and reach their potential.

Teaching Experience

I have worked in education since 1998 and have been a private tutor since 2009, giving me more than 25 years of teaching experience and over 15 years of tutoring experience.

Throughout my career, I have worked with students across different ages, abilities and educational settings. I have extensive experience supporting students who may lack confidence in Maths, as well as those who want to improve their grades and reach their full potential.

I hold three degrees, including qualifications in Mathematics, and I continue to develop my teaching knowledge and practice throughout my career.

My experience has taught me that students can make significant progress when they receive the right combination of clear explanations, encouragement, patience and appropriately challenging work.

Tutoring Approach

Every student is different, and I believe tutoring should be tailored to their individual needs, ability and learning style. My approach is patient, supportive and encouraging, while also challenging students to make progress.

I focus on developing not only mathematical knowledge but also confidence and independence. I want students to understand why they are doing something, rather than simply learning a method to get an answer.

I particularly enjoy seeing the “lightbulb moment” when a student finally understands something they have previously found difficult. Building that confidence and seeing students flourish in their understanding is one of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring for me.

Whether a student needs to strengthen their foundations, address gaps in knowledge, prepare for GCSE examinations or challenge themselves to achieve higher grades, I work with them to identify what they need and help them progress at a pace that is right for them.

Maya was excellent with my daughter who was studying for her GCSEs. She went from a 3 in her first set out mocks to a 5 in her final grade! Thank you Maya

We are very happy with Maya, she has given two sessions to my granddaughter and has provided exactly what is required to support her with her maths. My granddaughter already feels more confident and says she enjoys her sessions.

Maya is helping our daughter (yr 9) get back to a good standard ready for GCSEs, after time in a chaotic school, which she has now left. We're seeing great progress, and returning confidence, with the support of Maya, a kind, caring and highly skilled tutor. Recommended. First Tutors looks like a great resource for parents and carers looking for help.

Highly recommended tutor! Maya is kind, patient and flexible with time. She gave back my son’s confidence in math which he lost during lockdown. A massive leap on his grade compared to his predicted grade. My son got a good result in his GCSE! Massive thanks you Maya!
