Tutor Profile

Olympia

Private Biology and Chemistry Tutor

I am a third-year Medical Student at the University of Cambridge, with a strong academic background including 13 grade 9s at GCSE and A*s in all four of my A-level subjects. I am hardworking and enthusiastic about learning, but equally enjoy helping others develop their own understanding and confidence.

I believe that effective tutoring is about much more than simply knowing the answers. Having recently completed my own GCSEs and A-levels, I understand the challenges students face and the importance of making revision and learning feel manageable.

Alongside my studies, I have a wide range of interests and enjoy maintaining a good balance outside university. I particularly enjoy hiking, running and rowing, as well as crochet, playing the clarinet, baking and cooking. I believe that having pastimes outside of academics is an important part of staying motivated and enjoying learning.

I would love the opportunity to help students build both their subject knowledge and their confidence, whether they are preparing for exams, working through challenging topics or simply looking to get more out of their studies.

Teaching Experience

I have tutored GCSE Biology briefly on another tutoring platform, as well as volunteered to tutor GCSE Chemistry to a student while I was in Year 12. Both of these were gratifying experiences as I could see the students develop and grow in confidence. I also tutor my younger brother who is preparing for his GCSEs, in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor each session to the individual student, taking into account their current understanding, areas they find challenging and their goals for the subject. Before each session, I use resources such as Physics & Maths Tutor, Save My Exams and the relevant exam specification to plan material and ensure that lessons are focused and aligned with the requirements of their course. During sessions, I like to vary the approach depending on what the student finds most useful. This might include explaining new concepts, working through exam-style questions, or creating revision tools, such as flashcards or mind maps. I encourage students to work through problems themselves while providing guidance and explanations whenever they need them. I can also suggest revision techniques and help students find methods that work well for them. Where appropriate, I can set homework or additional questions between sessions, which I can mark and then review together in the following lesson. My aim is not simply to help students learn the content, but to build their confidence and give them the skills to study independently.
