I am an experienced English tutor and qualified English teacher, specialising in Scotland’s National 5 and Higher English courses. I have worked with young people for over 25 years and have a thorough understanding of the Scottish curriculum and SQA assessment requirements.

I particularly enjoy helping pupils develop confidence in their own ideas and express those ideas clearly in both written work and discussion. I offer friendly, patient and encouraging tuition tailored to the needs of each individual pupil.

I have over 25 years’ experience of working with pupils and providing one-to-one English tuition. I specialise in National 5 and Higher English, including close reading and RUAE skills, critical essays, Scottish set texts, folio writing and exam preparation.

I have supported pupils with a wide range of abilities, confidence levels and learning needs. My extensive knowledge of the Scottish curriculum allows me to identify precisely what a pupil needs to improve and explain SQA requirements in a clear and manageable way.

My approach is warm, supportive and tailored to the individual pupil. I begin by identifying their strengths, the areas they find difficult and what they hope to achieve. Lessons are then planned around their particular needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.

I break difficult tasks into manageable stages and use clear examples to show pupils how to strengthen their analysis and writing. My aim is not simply to improve marks, but to help pupils understand what they are doing, become more confident and develop skills they can use independently.
