Tutor Profile

David

Gentle but effective!

I live in Kent, and I've taught in a variety of universities and schools in the UK, as well as tutoring one-to-one. I've also lived and taught overseas for a while, in Ireland, the USA, Ghana, Seychelles and the Maldives, where I'm a Visiting Lecturer and External Examiner at a university. I'm now back in the UK, which means I can tutor face-to-face as well as online. When I'm not tutoring, I cycle and make my own clothes!

(I was registered at birth as Alexander David, so don't be confused by my reviews!)

Teaching Experience

I have over 20 years' experience tutoring degree and A level Psychology, and GCSE Maths and English. I've worked at universities in the UK, Ireland and the Maldives, and I've taught in schools in England, the USA and Seychelles. All of my students have gained better grades in exams than they would have without me, they've said.

Tutoring Approach

I start off by finding out where you're at and where you need to get to. Then it's a case of working out the best way for you as an individual to get from one to the other. I look at what gaps there are in your skills and knowledge, and I then explain things in a systematic way that helps you to learn more effectively and to apply knowledge confidently to assessments in a way that maximises your grades.

I adapt to your style of learning so that it's easy for you to follow the route and reach your destination smoothly. If I can make you smile on the way, so much the better!

I love helping people to understand and apply knowledge. Whether it's getting your head round some of the more difficult parts of the A level Psychology specifications, or making up lost ground in GCSE Maths or English, watching lightbulbs appear above students' heads is what makes me happy!

For degree level Psychology, I can offer focused help with projects, research methods and essay-writing skills, and well as helping with subject knowledge.

Alex has been brilliant in helping my anxious and autistic teenage son to achieve his Maths GCSE. He ended up with a very pleasing result. Alex is patient, reliable, extremely knowledgeable and professional. He also helped to put my son at ease and they made each other laugh!

Alex has been very helpful and patient with my little sister so far. I’ve already seen a big difference in her confidence with Maths and he is great at explaining things to her until she properly understands. Would definitely recommend.

Alexander is a very articulate, patient and helpful tutor, who makes my son's tutoring sessions an absolute joy. His impact on my son's grades are visible, even though Alexander only began working with my son two months ago. Highly recommended. Thank you, Alexander, for the work I've done with my son.

Tutor response

Thank you, Cristian. It's an absolute pleasure to work with your son, and I really look forward to our sessions!
