Tutor Profile

Isa

Private French and Spanish Tutor in London

I am a qualified native teacher of French and Spanish (QTS). My PGCE has enabled me to work in various secondary schools and colleges in the UK.

I am highly experienced in various exams boards: AQA/ Edexcel/ CIE (GCSE/ IGCSE/ A level/ IB Standard and higher level , 13+ Common Entrance (ISEB/ Scholarship), commonly enabling students to achieving grades 8 and 9. . I have a life long interest in linguistics and studied this in depth as part of my English and Spanish degree at the university of Poitiers, as well as the Diploma in Translation. I believe languages are fun and a useful skill in life.

Teaching Experience

I am a qualified secondary school teacher (PGCE) with over 15 years’ experience teaching French and Spanish in the UK.

I specialise in helping students: • Achieve top grades (GCSE /IGCSE & A-Level / IB/Uni) • Develop confident, fluent speaking skills • Master grammar and high-level writing • Examiner-level understanding of exam requirements (AQA/ Edexcel/ CIE/13+ common entrance) . A level: wide experience and materials to teach the main books and films for AQA/Edexcel.

In addition, I teach overseas students to prepare them in advance for UK entry level tests/ or students attending international schools overseas sitting IGCSE following the British Curriculum.

During the past few years, I have also been preparing students as independent candidates outside of school setting; please contact me to discuss this option, I am committed to the success of my students.

For adults wishing to learn the language for pleasure or for specific objectives (holiday / re-location /business etc...), lessons are tailored around your specific needs or interests and are relaxed and fun.

Tutoring Approach

During my lessons, I focus on speaking in order to quickly improve Listening and Oral skills. Phonics may be used to improve students pronunciation.

First few lessons are based on assessment and short, achievable exercises, to increase students confidence.

I am often told that am kind and patient- I do believe these are necessary qualities as a tutor to create a trusting relationship with a young person. Progress will happen quickly as I apply recognized language teaching methods.

I have a particular interest in grammar and ensure that clear explanations are followed by independent practice. I simplify grammar concepts to aid understanding and provide useful memorization tips as well as useful materials.

After the lesson, I send the main exercise(s) completed by the student alongside useful annotations, which can be kept as revision notes.

This is accompanied by a personalized report, including homework to consolidate any area highlighted during the lesson. This is very much appreciated by parents and students, creating continuity between lessons.

I also enjoy coaching students on study skills and how to organize their notes, ensuring they build up a nice collection of written paragraphs and vocabulary.
I share useful resources such as A star phrases and Grammar booklet.

I take pride in my work and have excellent relationships with parents and students alike. I offer flexibility whenever possible and respond promptly to messages.

Isabelle is an excellent tutor. She tutored my child in the 3 months to her French GCSE speaking exams, she engaged well with my child and her lessons are interactive. She made a difference in a short time especially in pronouncing of word, tenses and other areas. Her lessons are well prepared and focused on areas that need improvement, she gives homework and feedback. I really recommend her.
