I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University and have worked for many years in the computer industry. I have always enjoyed mathematics – something I passed on to my children, my son now working as a Maths teacher - and now find myself in demand as a one-to-one tutor. I am very patient and nurturing and aim to make the lessons enjoyable for my students. They are encouraged to work to their potential, whatever level that may be. I did have many 5* reviews on the now defunct First Tutors which were unfortunately lost when the site failed.

Teaching Experience
I am a full time professional tutor with over ten years experience. I have helped well over a hundred students to meet or exceed their target grade. I am familiar with the current syllabus and various exam boards. I gain most of my students by referral and have tutored many family groups; siblings, cousins etc.
Tutoring Approach
Many of my students lack confidence. They are often having problems at school because they have missed some vital techniques and find it increasingly difficult to make sense of the lessons. I begin at a level comfortable for them and at which they can achieve success. We then build on this foundation, fill in the gaps, and they begin to catch up at school. I enjoy working with high achievers and those planning to study at A level. Adults are very welcome too! I prefer face to face lessons but I can provide online lessons or a mixture.

I found Julie through this site and could not be more happy that we found her for my daughter Amy! She is such a calm and patient person and Amy is finally after years of hating maths and not understanding it in class, is finally beginning to enjoy it. She goes in to Julie's lessons and comes out of them with a smile ☺ Julie has always prepared her lessons for Amy beforehand and gear's them towards her needs. She even emails me websites she thinks may be of help at home that she finds. Amy also brings work she is finding difficult in class that week to Julie so she can have 1:1 help. This has proved so valuable. The classes in most schools these days are too large to help those that are really struggling. So my advise is to go with a tutor as soon as you can if you can afford to.
