Hi, I’m Melissa! I’m a History graduate from UCL and a qualified English tutor with a passion for helping students build confidence, develop their skills and enjoy learning.

I offer tutoring in both History and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). I enjoy working with students of different ages and abilities and adapting lessons to suit their individual goals, interests and learning style.

I have experience teaching English to both adults and younger learners, including one-to-one online lessons. I have taught students from beginner to advanced levels, with lessons covering conversation, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading and practical communication.

I also volunteer teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees, and have experience supporting learners from different cultural and language backgrounds.

Alongside EFL, I offer History tutoring as a UCL History graduate. I can support students with understanding historical topics, essay writing, source analysis, developing arguments, exam preparation and improving confidence with written answers.

My lessons are student-focused, relaxed and interactive. I adapt each lesson to the learner rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

For English, I particularly enjoy helping students develop their speaking and communication skills. I encourage students to speak as much as possible in a supportive environment where mistakes are a natural and useful part of learning. I also provide personalised feedback and corrections to help students improve.

For History, I focus on helping students develop understanding, critical thinking and the ability to explain ideas clearly. Rather than simply memorising facts, we can explore why events happened, how different factors connect, analyse sources and develop strong, well-supported arguments.

My aim is to make every lesson engaging, supportive and tailored to the individual student, while helping them become more confident and independent learners.
