I am an extremely experienced English Language and Literature teacher, specialising in helping pupils achieve their very best. I have been a Senior Leader in a large independent boarding school and Head of English. I have taught at KS3, 4 & 5 and have tutored many pupils outside of school. I therefore have experience of tutoring and teaching pupils to pass entrance exams (including Common Entrance), 11+, 13+, GCSEs, A Levels. As a Head of Sixth Form, I am also an expert in University Applications (especially UCAS), including Oxbridge.

I have been teaching for 24+ years. I have taught students from age 4-18 in both the UK and The Bahamas. The majority of my teaching career has been spent teaching in selective UK Boarding Schools, where I have been a Deputy Head (Head of Sixth Form), Housemistress, Head of English and Head of Academic Extension. I have considerable experience of teaching A level, GCSE, KS3 13+, 11+ and CE. I have also been a GCSE Examiner.

I am experienced and confident in my teaching so that the lessons are planned to suit the pupils in my class – or individuals in my one-to-one sessions. The most important aspect for me is to ensure that a student feels confident in tackling a task and in doing their very best. Subjects, especially English, require students to feel comfortable taking risks but also to know that they are supported in doing so. Students enjoy the opportunity to discuss texts or ask questions. My style is to allow them to do this by creating an atmosphere of discussion, confidence and fun. Some students have started lessons with me having not previously liked the subject or they think they are "not very good at English." I like to change their attitudes by making the subject fun, listening to them and encouraging them every step of the way. Students will often quickly change their minds and learn to like the subject and gain confidence in their own ability and ideas. I wholeheartedly believe that a confident, kind and enthusiastic teacher can make a real difference to a pupil's well-being, confidence and results.
