Tutor Profile

Carolina

Native Spanish Tutor | GCSE, A-Level & Advanced Spanish

I'm Carolina, a native Spanish speaker and private tutor with twelve years' experience, specialising in KS3, GCSE and A-level Spanish across AQA, Pearson Edexcel and Eduqas/WJEC. I also welcome adults, from complete beginners to advanced learners.

I hold a degree in Modern Languages from the Open University and an Enhanced DBS check. With South American roots and more than twenty years living in England, I bring an understanding of both Spanish-speaking cultures and the UK educational context.

Having studied languages myself, I understand how challenging it can feel to express yourself in another language. I enjoy helping learners build confidence and discover the enjoyment of using Spanish. My interests include reading, drawing and painting, with a particular enthusiasm for Spanish and Latin American literature and film.

Teaching Experience

Over twelve years of private tutoring, I have supported students with a wide range of abilities, starting points and goals, from developing a foundation in Spanish to preparing for GCSE and A-level examinations.

For KS3 and GCSE, my teaching covers speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and translation. I help students address gaps in their understanding, strengthen their language skills and prepare through exam-style questions, past papers and targeted exam technique.

At A-level, I support advanced grammar, translation, speaking and discussion, essay writing and the Individual Research Project (IRP). I also work with students on prescribed films and literary texts, helping them explore themes, characters and cultural context, and develop clear analytical arguments.

My experience also includes teaching adults for conversation, travel, work and personal enjoyment. For advanced and university-level learners, I offer specialised lessons in Spanish and Latin American literature and film.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is patient, supportive and structured, with lessons adapted to each student's needs rather than following a fixed programme. I begin by discussing your goals and identifying your strengths and areas for improvement, then use these to guide our work together.

I provide clear explanations and plenty of practice, adjusting the pace and activities as needed. Lessons may combine conversation, listening, reading, written work and focused grammar exercises. For exam students, we also work on the requirements of the relevant specification and practise applying skills to exam questions.

Some learners prefer a relaxed, conversational lesson; others benefit from a more formal, academic approach. I am flexible about the balance while keeping a clear sense of purpose and progress.

I encourage questions and help students feel comfortable making mistakes. Building speaking confidence is particularly important to me, alongside developing accuracy and independence. Where useful, I suggest manageable practice between lessons to reinforce what we have covered.
