I hold a degree in Economics from Lancaster University, bring over 30 years of teaching experience and 15 years as an A Level EXAMINER, teaching across a variety of leading institutions, including a top national grammar school in Cheltenham, an outstanding secondary school in Gloucestershire, and an independent tutorial college in London. I am an A Level Examiner (and GCSE), tutor, and mentor, supporting teachers delivering A Level Economics and Business Studies. Your First Session is Complimentary, giving you the opportunity to determine whether my tutoring is the right fit while also accounting for any finder’s fees.

I hold a current, up-to-date DBS certificate. Based in the Midlands, I am married with two children and passionate about supporting young people in reaching their full potential. Outside of teaching, I am an enthusiastic sportsman, continuing to play competitive football as well as enjoying tennis and badminton recreationally.

I have over 30 years of teaching experience, specialising in A Level Economics and A Level Business Studies. Throughout my career, I have held a range of senior leadership positions, including Head of Department, Head of Faculty, and Head of Sixth Form (Assistant Headteacher). I have consistently delivered excellent outcomes, with students achieving strong value-added results and a significant proportion progressing to study Economics or Business at top universities.

Most recently, summer 2026, my A Level Economics students achieved a 71% A*–A pass rate and 100% A*–B. Also, my one A Level Business Studies student achieved an A*.

Alongside my teaching, I am an experienced A Level and GCSE Examiner and Reviewer for Marking and Moderation, which provides me with invaluable insight into the assessment process and a clear understanding of what exam boards expect in order to award the highest grades. I am fully familiar with all major exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, Edexcel International, WJEC, OCR, and Eduqas. My teaching approach is centred on developing students’ exam technique and higher-order skills such as analysis and evaluation, which are critical for achieving top results. As a result, my students consistently make significant progress, often improving by at least two grades over the course of their studies.

At the start of each tutoring program, I discuss with my tutee the areas they wish to focus on. This may include specific parts of the syllabus, reviewing previously studied topics, or exploring current topics in depth. However, most students benefit most from improving their exam technique and learning how to translate their knowledge into top grades.

My teaching approach incorporates past papers, real-life examples, and a strong focus on the mark scheme. As an experienced A Level and GCSE examiner, I emphasise the exam specification and exam technique, ensuring that students are well-prepared to structure essays effectively and apply their answers to case study information. My goal is to inspire students while providing the highest-quality support, using a range of teaching and learning strategies tailored to each individual. During and after tutoring sessions, students receive informative resource sheets, and I provide constructive feedback on past exam questions before the next session, maximising the benefit of our work together.

Below are two recent testimonials from parents of students I tutored this year.

"My son Ben was 2 marks from a U grade in his November mock exam and was seriously thinking about dropping the subject. We got Huw to tutor him and immediately he began to enjoy the subject. Huw was able to explain difficult theories in a way in which Ben could understand and with his expert guidance in preparation for his summer exams, Ben gained an A grade and is now studying Economics at University in Manchester. We strongly recommend Huw" David, from Worcester.

"Huw tutored my son on the run up to his A’Levels earlier this year and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for tutoring support. Huw is passionate about the subjects he teaches, has a wealth of knowledge on current teaching criteria, a range of resources, and adapts his lessons to suit the need of the student. His approach is calm, professional and engaging and he instils a feeling of positivity and capability in the students he supports. Thanks to Huw, my son passed his A’Level Economics with an “A” and we would recommend him 100%. " Lisa L from Droitwich
