Rajlaxmi

I am an experienced tutor with a PhD in Electronics Engineering and over a decade of teaching and tutoring experience since 2013. I specialise in Mathematics, Physics, and Electrical/Electronics Engineering, supporting students from primary level through to university and Master’s level study.

Over the years, I have worked with a wide range of students and learning styles - from those aiming for top grades to those who have lost confidence in the subject entirely. I particularly enjoy helping students who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or “not naturally good” at mathematics or physics rediscover their ability through clear explanation, patience, and structured guidance.

My teaching combines academic rigour with a calm and supportive approach. I believe students perform best when they truly understand the reasoning behind what they are doing, rather than relying on memorisation or shortcuts. This is especially important in mathematics, physics, and engineering, where strong foundations are essential for long-term success.

I teach across AQA, Edexcel, and OCR specifications, and I tailor lessons carefully to each student’s goals, pace, and current level of understanding. Whether the aim is rebuilding confidence, improving exam technique, strengthening core fundamentals, or achieving top grades, I work closely with students to help them progress in a way that is both effective and sustainable.

Teaching Experience

I have been tutoring since 2013, teaching students across a broad academic range - from primary mathematics through to advanced university-level engineering modules. My experience includes working with GCSE and A-Level students across the major UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, and OCR), as well as supporting foundation-year, undergraduate, and postgraduate engineering students.

My academic background in Electronics Engineering, culminating in a PhD focused on applications of dynamical systems, allows me to teach not only procedural methods but also the deeper principles that underpin mathematical and physical concepts. This enables students to develop genuine understanding and transferable problem-solving skills rather than relying solely on memorisation.

Throughout my tutoring career, I have worked extensively with:

  • students seeking to improve several grades
  • students struggling with confidence or mathematical anxiety
  • adult learners returning to education after many years
  • university students navigating demanding technical material
  • students preparing for important examinations and assessments

Most lessons are delivered online, where I have developed a highly effective and interactive teaching style that allows students to ask questions freely and engage deeply with the material in a comfortable environment.

My focus has always been on building strong understanding, independence, and confidence so that students are equipped not only for their immediate exams, but for future academic and professional success as well.

Tutoring Approach

Every student has the potential to excel, and my role is to help unlock that potential.

I tailor my lessons to suit each student’s individual needs, but one principle underpins everything I do: building a strong mathematical foundation. Without this, no amount of practice will lead to consistent or lasting improvement.

My focus is on building students’ confidence in how mathematics (the core of any STEM learning) works - not through memorisation, but through genuine understanding. I encourage students to ask as many questions as they need to feel confident, with absolutely no judgment. Patience and lucidity are central to my teaching approach, ensuring every concept is fully grasped before moving on.

I support students in learning how to:

– read questions accurately and with intent – determine precisely what the question is asking for – select the most appropriate method or “tool” for the problem – arrive at correct solutions with clarity and reliability, rather than guesswork

This tried-and-tested approach equips students to tackle both familiar and unfamiliar problems with confidence.

I care deeply about my students’ success, but my definition of success extends beyond exam results alone. My aim is to develop independent thinkers who can apply their knowledge effectively in exams, further study, and real-world contexts.

By building strong understanding and confidence, students learn to select the right tool for the right task, every time. When this foundation is in place, the grades follow naturally.

Please feel free to get in touch so we can discuss your goals and tailor a learning plan together.
