Chong

Hello, my name is Dr. Chew Wuei Chong, and I am a PhD-qualified Psychology lecturer and tutor with more than 15 years of teaching experience across university, pre-university, and secondary education. I specialize in Psychology, Research Methods, Statistics, Academic Writing, and examination preparation for IB, A-Level, and IGCSE students.

I completed both my Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) and PhD in Psychology at the University of Otago, a globally respected research university. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have worked with students from highly diverse backgrounds and learning abilities — from struggling learners requiring foundational support to high-performing students aiming for academic distinction. My experience as an international student and educator has also helped me understand the academic, emotional, and motivational challenges students face.

What distinguishes my teaching is the combination of strong academic expertise with patience, adaptability, and genuine investment in student growth. I believe students learn best when they feel supported, intellectually engaged, and confident in asking questions. Many of my former students who initially struggled academically later achieved major milestones, including successful university graduation, professional careers, and postgraduate progression.

Teaching Experience

With over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I have taught Psychology across university, IB, A-Level, and IGCSE programmes, both online and in person. I currently serve as a Senior Lecturer and Postgraduate Program Lead, supervising Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD research projects in areas including research methods, statistics, cognitive psychology, and academic writing. My students have consistently achieved strong academic outcomes, including high distinction rates and significant improvement in examination performance.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach combines conceptual clarity, critical thinking, and exam-focused strategy. I believe students learn best when they understand the logic behind ideas rather than relying on memorization alone. I tailor lessons to each student’s learning style, helping them develop confidence, analytical skills, and structured academic writing abilities. Known for being patient, supportive, and engaging, I aim not only to improve grades, but also to help students become more independent, resilient, and intellectually confident learners.
