Tutor Profile

Hello! I'm a fully qualified English teacher (QTS and PGCE) and former Head of Department with 15 years experience teaching English Language and Literature at GCSE, iGCSE and A Level. I am also a GCSE examiner for two major exam boards. I tutor online and in person around NG2 and NG12 - I'm very happy to provide references from the lovely families I've worked with in Nottingham and online.

From September I will have in-person spaces available on Wednesdays and Thursdays in West Bridgford and Keyworth. Online lessons are available on Mondays and Tuesdays.

I absolutely love tutoring and building supportive working relationships with students: I have high expectations of what they can achieve and will go the extra mile to get them there!

Online lessons take place over Zooms/Teams/Google Meet, whatever works for you.

Teaching Experience

I have lots of experience in supporting students with SEND, particularly dyslexia and ADHD, and I really enjoy using my experience and a range of strategies to help them realise their potential.

I can support students with the following exam specifications: AQA GCSE English Language and Literature AQA A Level (Spec B) Literature iGCSE Pearson Edexcel English OCR A Level Literature

Tutoring Approach

I like to build warm and friendly working relationships with students, while gently pushing and challenging them to reach their full potential.

Often students feel unsure of how to structure their answers or get their ideas organised into an essay format - sorting this out is my speciality! I do lots of work on exam technique, using model answers, live marking and practice questions to support students to understand the requirements of the exam and build their confidence.

I am also a big believer in teaching vocabulary, so that students are able to write in a way that accurately reflects their understanding and ideas.

All my lessons are bespoke and individualised, guided by the student and complimenting their school's approach. I also support students with revision strategies and preparing independently for any upcoming mocks and exams.

In terms of Literature texts, I have taught a huge range across GCSE and A Level: Shakespeare plays (Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Othello, King Lear, Twelfth Night, Richard II, The Tempest), An Inspector Calls, Animal Farm, Jekyll and Hyde, A Christmas Carol, Power and Conflict poetry, Love and Relationships poetry etc.

Katy is very friendly and easy going. My son is very much enjoying his tutor sessions helping him build on his writing techniques and confidence.

Katy has been an amazing find. The one to one sessions she has had with my daughter have helped her come on leaps and bounds in her English. As my daughter struggled to keep up in the class, and having Katy tutor her face to face has proved her marks have gone up and her confidence in her work has increased. I could not recommend Katy more highly.
