Hi, I’m Emily! I’m a Year 13 student holding offers to study maths at university, with predicted grades of A*AA in Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science. I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE Maths as well as strong GCSE results across all subjects.
I have experience supporting younger students in maths within school through mentoring and peer support sessions. This involved helping students understand difficult topics, working through practice questions, and explaining methods in different ways depending on the student.
Outside of school, I work as a ski instructor, teaching groups of up to 10 people at a time. This role has given me strong teaching and communication skills, including adapting explanations for different learning styles, keeping lessons engaging, and building students’ confidence.
I also completed work experience in the Computer Science department at the University of Warwick, including helping with outreach activities and communicating technical ideas clearly.
My approach to tutoring is focused on building confidence alongside strong understanding. I know maths can sometimes feel overwhelming, so I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
I like to break difficult topics down into simple steps and explain concepts clearly before practising exam-style questions together. I also adapt lessons to each student’s learning style and pace, whether that means working through examples slowly or focusing on exam technique and speed.
Having recently completed GCSEs and A-level study myself, I understand the current courses and the challenges students face, so I can give practical advice on revision, problem-solving, and exam preparation as well as teaching the content itself.
