Private Maths and Entrance Exams Tutor in Ilford

Hello! I’m a Mathematics graduate from Queen Mary University of London and have been a full-time private Maths tutor for over nine years. During this time, I have had the privilege of teaching hundreds of students, supporting children of all abilities to grow in confidence, improve their understanding of mathematics and achieve excellent results.

Over the years, I have built long-lasting relationships with many families. A large proportion of my students have come through recommendations, and I have taught numerous siblings, cousins and friends. For me, this is the greatest measure of success, as it reflects the trust parents place in my teaching and the positive experiences their children have had.

Whether a student needs help building confidence, preparing for SATs or the 11+, improving GCSE grades or achieving their full potential at A-Level, I provide lessons that are tailored to their individual needs and learning style.

Teaching Experience

I have over nine years of full-time tutoring experience, working with students from KS2 through to A-Level Mathematics.

I have successfully prepared students for:

KS2 Maths and SATs

11+ Grammar School Entrance Exams

Independent School Entrance Exams

GCSE Mathematics (Foundation & Higher)

A-Level Mathematics

Throughout my tutoring career, I have helped many students make significant progress, with numerous students improving by multiple grades through consistent support, structured lessons and regular practice. I firmly believe that when a student is willing to work hard and receives the right guidance, they can achieve far more than they initially believe possible.

While some students come to me aiming for the very highest grades, many simply want to feel more confident in maths or need extra support to reach their target grade. Supporting students who have previously struggled with confidence and seeing them begin to enjoy mathematics is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

Tutoring Approach

Every student is different, so I never believe in a “one size fits all” approach to tutoring.

At the beginning of our lessons, I take time to understand each student’s strengths, areas for development and learning style. This allows me to create lessons that are engaging, personalised and focused on the areas where they will make the greatest progress.

Before moving on to more challenging topics, I ensure students have secure foundations. Identifying and addressing gaps in understanding early helps students develop genuine confidence rather than simply memorising methods.

I create a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions without worrying about making mistakes. My aim is not only to improve grades but also to help students become confident, independent learners who understand the reasoning behind mathematical concepts.

Parents often tell me that their children become much more confident in maths after working with me, and many students who once disliked the subject begin to enjoy it as their understanding grows.

First Tutors

Farhana has been tutoring my daughter in maths for a while now, and I honestly can’t thank her enough. The 1-to-1 sessions have made such a difference. My daughter genuinely looks forward to the sessions and is actually enjoying learning maths, which is something I never thought I’d hear her say! I’ve really noticed her confidence growing, and she’s starting to understand topics that she used to struggle with. Farhana is patient, explains things in a way that makes sense, and takes the time to make sure my daughter truly understands each topic before moving on. It’s been so lovely to see this progress, and I’m feeling much more hopeful about her GCSEs. I’m really grateful for the support Farhana has given, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to other parents looking for a supportive and reliable maths tutor.

I've recently had a few lessons with Farhana and I'm really pleased with the way she delivers my math tutoring sessions. She's a great tutor who explains things clearly and gets straight to the point, especially when helping me with the areas I struggle in. She also provides excellent resources during our lessons, which makes learning much easier. Farhana is always patient and supportive, even when I find it difficult to answer a question. I'm genuinely happy to have her as my tutor, and I feel confident that I won't regret it when I sit my GCSEs next year.
