Private Maths and Special Needs Tutor in Southampton

Full Time Maths & SEN Tutor 馃専8200+ Hours Taught 馃専SEND Specialist and Trainee Dyslexia Assessor

I've been tutoring for over 12 years and have developed an effective toolbox of strategies to support students online across GCSE/iGCSE and Functional Skills.

I consider myself a lifelong learner too, and my current studies are leading me towards being a dyslexia assessor, having qualified as a specialist dyslexia teacher in 2023.

I support students who are at school, those electively home educated, have EOTAS status or those in receipt of EHCP provision. I can support with topics covered at school, or create personalised learning plans that suit the individual child - I'm always happy to discuss how this works with potential students.

Teaching Experience

I started tutoring whilst studying for my BSc Mathematics degree and just never stopped! I thrived in self-employment, and managing my own workload suited my neurodiverse self perfectly. I've had incredible teaching experiences, including remote work, in schools, colleges, and in the UAE.

I have been tutoring for over a decade, supporting adults in the Forces and the NHS to gain promotions, and countless GCSE and A Level students towards exam success. I now tutor solely on GCSE/iGCSE or Functional Skills syllabi, as the narrow focus enables me to offer expertly tailored tuition to students on these courses.

I am an Assistant Examiner for a large exam board and use techniques learned from marking papers to teach students how to answer for maximum marks.

I am an AQA centre for the Unit Award Scheme and can help students complete modules for this each academic year.

Tutoring Approach

I specialist in supporting students who are neurodiverse, like myself, and need a more personalised approach. I have successfully supported students with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, Autism, and other learning differences towards gaining their desired grades. Online sessions are varied and interesting, with the student as the sole focus. I listen to their verbal and non-verbal communication and make sure we go at the right pace for them. I utilise my dyslexia teacher training to break down steps and incorporate teaching strategies that support effective learning for long-term recall.

I can't speak highly enough of Alice. My daughter has finally starting to understand maths after years of struggling and really enjoys the tutor sessions. I get feedback after each tutor session and kept well informed of all arrangements.

Alice immediately connected with my daughter. She made maths a subject that my daughter now enjoys. My daughter is autistic and adhd and often struggles with people that aren't family members, but from day one Alice put my daughter at ease. She looks forward to her weekly maths lesson
