Private Maths and Further Maths Tutor in Congleton

Hi, I’m Katrina, a maths graduate passionate about sharing the joy of maths. I will work with students to improve their maths, raise their confidence, and ultimately achieve their individual goals. Giving them a voice and allowing them to control their learning with my support and guidance.

Teaching Experience

I have been a tutor for 3 years, supporting students of a range of ages and abilities. I have also supported others in maths in various capacities during my school career. Starting by mentoring students in high school. Volunteering and then running number partners at university, a program where university students go into primary schools and help those struggling with maths by playing maths games. My first student I tutored through their GCSE. Below is a quote from her.

“I think Katrina is a wonderful tutor since when she tutored me, she always appeared joyful and sociable on the calls. She asked if I understood after a problem and then explained to me with examples, sometimes by using household objects to help learn another way.”

Dulcie from the Wirral.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is very student-led. I believe it is important to allow students to take control of their learning while giving them support and guidance. I make sure the student is comfortable asking questions, talking through their thoughts, and telling me when they are lost. I try to explain problems in different ways, I especially try to make it more practical and physical, as many students find that helpful. Below are quotes from students’ parents about my approach.

'Katrina is quietly spoken, I'd say gentle in her manner which is a way in which Dulcie responds to, she didn't feel foolish in asking her questions. She’s a great listener and gave Dulcie time to answer and never got frustrated with her even if the explanation had to be repeated. Only wished I'd had her for a tutor when I was at school.'

Dulcie's parents Elaine and Chris

Both children have jumped stages in maths due to having more confidence and understanding and this is all down to the way Kat engages with the children and makes maths fun. She is always flexible and understanding with my busy household and I trust her completely.

Katrina was responsive and communicative in understanding what we were looking for for our child, and we’re now a few weeks in to the tutoring, Katrina has been very reliable and things are going well and our child enjoys the sessions with Katrina.

My son needed some maths, A level, revision sessions before his 2nd year of A levels. Katrina was punctual and professional. She was well prepared for each lesson and provided just the right amount of support and challenge. My son returned to college feeling much more confident. Thank you!
