Tutor Profile

Tony

Private Physics and Maths Tutor in London

I have been teaching for over 40 years. I have a BSc in Physics from Liverpool University and a PGCE. After graduation I worked as a computer programmer. I give regular talks at the Science Museum. I tutor A level Physics and Maths/Science at GCSE level.

Teaching Experience

I started my teaching career as a secondary school teacher and later, after several years teaching in South East Asia, I returned to the UK and worked as a Physics and Maths lecturer at a 6th Form College in East London, eventually becoming Head of Science. I have been an online tutor since 2020, completing over 4000 hours. I have also worked for several years as an Examiner for OCR and Pearson. My specialist subject is A level Physics but I also teach GCSE Maths and Science

Tutoring Approach

I always build my tutoring around the needs of my individual tutee. I have a broad range of tutees and no two tutees have exactly the same needs or expectation. I have a free trial lesson to assess the students ability and needs. At the start of each session I negotiate the activities to be carried out during the hour. My approach is interactive, the tutee is working actively throughout the session, according to their own pace. In broad terms I aim for 50% theory and 50% application. I often negotiate homework activities and keep close contact with the parents.

Tony has been excellent for tutoring my daughter for GCSE Maths and Physics. He is very knowledgable, and the build a good relationship, tutoring online. She feels much more confident in the subjects and her grades for mocks have improved since Tonys tutoring. Thanks Tony!

Physics has always been my worst subject, and it has always been an issue because I really wanted to get into a top university for my chosen course. I was convinced I wouldn't be able to, until I started tuition with Mr Dunn, and I couldn't be more grateful. He is an incredible teacher, always kind and extremely patient, willing to explain any concepts as much as you want, and I couldn't recommend him enough. He consistently broke down concepts into easy-to-understand chunks, and I have made significant progress in physics. I wouldn't have been able to perform well in A levels without him, and to anyone looking for a tutor, I highly recommend him.

Tony is an excellent teacher. He has taught my sister Chemistry, Physics and Maths. He was very accommodating on days we were unavailable and was flexible enough to reschedule. Tony brought in his own resources, like exam papers. He was a good teacher as he gave examples to explain concepts.

I am very pleased with the progress my daughter has made under Tony's guidance in GCSE Physics. Tony possesses a deep understanding of the subject and has a remarkable talent for making complex concepts accessible and engaging. My daughter looked forward to each session and has developed a genuine interest in Physics. I highly recommend Tony to anyone in need of an outstanding and supportive Physics tutor.

Tony had been helping my daughter with physics for 3 months before her GCSE mocks and she got a grade 7. Tony is reliable, friendly, and very knowledgeable in the subject. Emily enjoys his lessons. We will be using Tony until her GCDE exams.
