Tutor Profile

Dr.Mel

Private Biology and Chemistry Tutor in Cheadle

I'm Mel, a father of three children living in Manchester. I tutor for all levels of Biology, as well as GCSE and KS3 Maths, English, Physics and Chemistry.

Teaching Experience

For the last ten years I have tutored hundreds of students in Maths, English, Biology, chemistry and Physics. I've also taught a number of students in the US, China, Russia, Canada and many countries in Europe. To date I have taught 20,000+ lessons.

Tutoring Approach

I like to keep a flexible teaching style to work out what is best for each student.

Depending on what you need help with, we`ll work together in your first lesson to design a plan that will take you to where you need to be.

This might involve practising your maths skills, gaining confidence with concepts on the syllabus, or translating your knowledge more effectively into marks on your exam. Many students struggle with exam technique and it is definitely something a little tutoring can help with.

I have developed plenty of resources through my experience as a tutor to help students learn the key concepts on the biology syllabus for GCSE and A Level, and to get better at using this to tackle the harder exam questions. We`ll use a combination of slideshows, online whiteboard tasks, lots of discussion, and past paper practice to help you get the marks you need.

If you are happy to, I might ask you to do some practice for homework or to read up on some topics we will cover before the lesson. I find this can also help students with time management and study skills. For those looking to go on to study at university, this can be particularly helpful.

I also offer advice and practice interviews for those looking to apply to university for biology and related STEM subjects. This includes personal statement tips, ideas for developing your extracurricular interests, and help presenting yourself at interview.

Dr Mel has been a fantastic GCSE Maths and Science tutor for my son. He tailors each lesson to my son's individual needs, explains topics in a clear and engaging way, and has greatly increased both his confidence and his understanding of the subjects.

First Tutors

Mel is currently tutoring my son in preparation for his GCSEs. I can honestly say Mel has already boosted up his confidence and is such a good calming tutor, who is reassuring and very good at explaining the work. Would highly recommend Mel

First Tutors

Mel has been tutoring our daughter for a few months from the beginning of Year 11 in Maths and Combined Science for the year leading up to GCSE's. We are all extremely happy that we went with Mel over other tutors. He is an excellent tutor, very calm & patient, lessons are always planned well and our daughter says he has greatly helped her with her studies. We are continuing through to the end of the GCSE year and if needing a tutor beyond that he will be our first contact for A Levels. We would absolutely recommend Mel for any subjects he can help with. Many thanks for all your help Mel.

First Tutors

I would like to give a very positive feedback for my son Alan’s tutor. Mel is an excellent teacher in English, Maths, and the sciences — including Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. He explains everything clearly, is patient, and really understands how to support GCSE students. Since working with him, my son has become more confident and motivated in his studies. I highly recommend him to any parent looking for a reliable and knowledgeable tutor, moreover he is very flexible when it comes to arranging lesson times.
