Judit

Private English Tutor in Sidcup

Hello, I’m Judit, an energetic (after my first coffee, anyway) English tutor with over 9 years of tutoring experience with all major exam boards and a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature from Birkbeck, University of London. I work with KS3, GCSE, A-Level and University students, and the odd adult learner – really, everyone is welcome. I love reading (anything and everything from Milton to Atwood), and I love the process of meeting a new student, getting to know them, finding out how they click and then use it to improve their confidence, study methods, and overall mindset. That growth, seeing someone come into their own over the course of a few weeks or months, is what I enjoy most about tutoring.

Teaching Experience

Boring cliché aside, I’ve yet to encounter a student who is similar to one I met before. Children have unique experiences and perspectives that are worth listening to – and that’s exactly what I do. I’ve worked with students who would talk about anything just to avoid learning, and I’ve worked with students who only really needed a bit of encouragement. I’ve had students who spoke eloquently and were witty yet couldn’t write a single coherent sentence: the link between mind and paper broken. And I’ve seen students who only needed a handful of lessons and someone to speak the language of their unique and beautiful brains to really “get it”.

Tutoring Approach

I dedicate the first lesson or two to getting to know the student: what they’re currently covering in school, what they struggle with and what they enjoy doing. The latter is especially important because if we only focus on the hard bits, students get bored (because the prospect of an hour of struggle isn’t exactly enticing) or burn out (because without a sense of achievement, the grind becomes demotivating). But we can’t address the academic challenges without connecting with the child behind them: building rapport and a safe space where they feel confident voicing their thoughts and insecurities, knowing they will not be judged, is just as important as supporting them through their academic development.

Judith has been a fantastic English tutor for my daughter. She is warm, encouraging, and brings out the best in her students. Since starting lessons with Judith, my daughter has become much more confident — especially in how she approaches exam-style questions. Judith is excellent at breaking down what examiners are looking for and helping students structure their answers clearly and effectively. The sessions are well-paced, focused, and tailored to her needs, with plenty of helpful feedback along the way. We are really grateful for Judith’s support in preparing for the exams — highly recommended!

Judit is an excellent, engaging and personable tutor. My son feels more confident in English Literature as a result of Judit's teaching. Judit also provides a lesson plan which shows she has thought about how to tailor the sessions to be beneficial to the student, which I found highly professional

I've been having lessons for a while now, and I have to say that Judit is a great tutor who has adapted her teaching style to suit me. Even though I feel kind of nervous, she's really gentle and kind to me. I feel totally comfortable sharing my doubts and questions with her, and I feel that I have improved thanks to her.
