Tutor Profile

Andy

Andy

I am a semi retired Professional Engineer. I have been tutoring Mathematics since 2010 - starting with just family and friends. I have both a Bachelors and a Masters Degrees in Mathematics. I had been with FirstTutors for many years with excellent reviews. I have two children - one is a Graphics Designer in London and the other is teacher in Liphook, Hampshire. My main hobbies are travel and playing golf.

Teaching Experience

I have many years of experience tutoring students with both GCSE and A-Level Mathematics - across all examining boards. I now specialise in A-Level Mathematics (Pure, Mechanics and Statistics). I have had 6 students during the 2025/2026 academic year.

Tutoring Approach

Passing exams in Mathematics is largely based on confidence. So building confidence by past paper practice and analysis is key. I also think that having used Mathematics in my Professional Career gives me a practical advantage over other tutors.
The step up from GCSE Maths to A-Level Maths can be very challenging so it is important not to fall behind in Year 1 (which provides the building blocks for Year 2). Tutoring can be fun as well as rewarding so I focus on building a relaxed environment with the student. Finally, although I did do on-line Tutoring during the pandemic I do find that for Mathematics then face to face is far better.
