James

As a PhD-qualified senior lecturer with extensive academic knowledge and experience in both Mathematics and Computer Science, I am well-equipped to provide high-quality education to my students. I earned my first-class Honors degree, Masters, and PhD in computer science from Russell Group universities, namely the Universities of Warwick and Nottingham. My strong academic background has given me a thorough understanding of the latest curricula for KS2/3, GCSE, and A-level Maths, which I closely align my teaching with.

I am fully committed to meeting the unique learning needs of my students and always provide tailored tutoring sessions to ensure their success. I take a patient approach when explaining challenging concepts, and my students find me engaging and motivating.

The GCSE and A-level exams are becoming increasingly challenging, and it is more important than ever for students to have the support of a knowledgeable tutor who understands the various exam boards and techniques. I am dedicated to working closely with my students to help them achieve a grade higher than their target grade.

Over the years, I have helped many students improve their grades significantly. Almost all of my students have increased two or more grades after some time with me, and I regularly receive positive feedback from both parents and students. In addition to one-to-one tuition, I also offer discounted rate on group bookings, making it an excellent option for small study groups or friends who want to learn together.

As a capable and reliable tutor, I always strive to give my students a positive tuition experience. Witnessing their academic improvement always gives me a sense of satisfaction. tutoringexperience!! 40% DISCOUNT for group booking !!

Teaching Experience

I have more than 15 years of tutoring experience in Computing & Maths at different levels (KS2/3, GCSE, A level and university) and nearly 8 years of industrial experience.

Tutoring Approach

As an experienced tutor, I understand that each learner has unique learning needs, and I strive to deliver tailored tutoring sessions that are customised to meet those needs. At the start of each session, I take the time to assess the strengths and weaknesses of my students to better understand where they need additional support. I also incorporate regular ongoing assessments to track their progress and make any necessary adjustments to my teaching approach.

In my experience, achieving excellent exam grades is a result of having a deep understanding of the topics, the ability to apply concepts, and plenty of practice. To facilitate this, I use real-world examples to explain complex Math concepts and offer multiple solutions to the same questions to help students grasp the core of the problem. With access to my extensive question bank, which includes past exam papers and my own custom-designed questions, students have the opportunity to try different types of questions and bridge any gaps between understanding the topic and applying it in exam questions.

As an engaging and motivating tutor, I take pride in being patient when explaining difficult topics. I treat my tutees as friends and prioritise building trust between us. By doing so, I create an environment that is conducive to learning, where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts without fear of judgment.

I also provide my students with study skills and exam techniques that enhance their productivity and academic performance.

Wen Jun tutored my daughter for about six months from just after her mock GCSE Maths until the final exams. I would definitely recommend him as a Maths tutor. He is friendly, patient and made sure my daughter understood what he had explained before moving on. He also taught her different methods to those she was taught at school which she found useful in class as well as in the exams. I definitely thank him for tutoring her so well. Not just academically but also giving her confidence in Maths which she never had before.

Tutor response

Thanks, Nicole. It's my pleasure to teach Emily in the last couple of months. I am delighted to see her improvement in terms of both Maths skills and confidence level. Good luck to her exam tomorrow.

James is very punctual, professional and we are very pleased with the progress our son is making with A level maths. James sets homework every week and has put all the learning topics and homework on Dropbox, so that we can see what topics have been covered and the homework set and completed. We would highly recommend James.

James has helped my 13 year old Daughter understand Maths that she never understood before. He is patient and my daughter actually looks forward to Maths now. Also the level of homework with explanations is excellent and sent to us via Dropbox each week. We couldn't be happier and will continue with James up to GCSE's, if your looking for a maths tutor look no further.

James has been fantastic, my daughter has gone from being terrified of maths exams and going blank to knowing what she is doing. He is patient and takes the time to explain things until she understands it. She has progressed more in the last few months than the last 2 years.

Tutor response

Thanks, Judith. Niamh has a good commitment herself and it's a pleasure to teach her. Regards, James

Fast paced lesson, I learnt a lot in an hour.

Tutor response

Thanks, Kate. You have better knowledge in those covered areas, hence the pace was a bit faster than usual. I'll slow down when needed. Cheers, James
