Catherine tutored me for AQA A-level English in the run up to exams as an independent candidate aiming for an A*. I have nothing but good things to say in this review. She was able to identify and improve my weaknesses, rather than waste time on extraneous materials. She was always very quick to get back to me and flexible if I needed to change lessons. Having Catherine as a tutor meant I walked into exams with the confidence I had done everything I could to put my best foot forward. I can see a stark improvement in my essays before the exam in comparison to those I wrote before she took me on as a student. Not only do have I improved as an A-level student, but as an independent reader of literature. Catherine helped our daughter enormously when preparing for her A level in English literature. She was a strong student and held an offer from Cambridge to study English, but was not confident that her school was covering the material thoroughly enough to get her to the high grades she needed to be accepted onto her course. Catherine was very helpful in identifying areas where there were shortfalls in her preparation in school, both in terms of the texts covered and in the techniques needed to answer questions well, and guided her through the reading and practice needed to fill the gaps. Catherine has been helping our daughter prepare for her English Literature A level - she is under pressure to get high grades in her A levels to meet her offer. Her teachers in the subject are okay, but we worried they were not getting the best out of our her and looked to Catherine for help in plugging the gaps in order to maximise her chances of meeting the conditions of the offer. Catherine has been really good for our daughter, probing where she needs further support and then giving it to her while boosting her confidence. Catherine knows her way around the A level syllabus and is able to diagnose where our daughter can benefit from intervention. Our daughter enjoys the sessions and finds the feedback from Catherine, from the discussions themselves and from and feedback on work set for between sessions, to be very useful. If we had to do this over again we would not hesitate to go back to Catherine.

Catherine has been an excellent tutor for my 17 year old son who is preparing for Alevels. She has really engaged him with the subject, so much so that he has changed his degree choice . She has worked with him on the structuring of essays and analysis of texts. He has ADHD and she has been great at adapting her tutor methods to accommodate this. His results have gone from C’s and D’s in his mocks to A ‘s in recent work. I would thoroughly recommend Catherine to any student.

Catherine has been great, she was careful from the beginning to assess the personal strengths and weaknesses of my daughter and has since applied a flexible approach to teaching, trying different methods to find what works. My daughter was predicted As at A'level, but achieved Cs and we came to Catherine for help with re-takes. While understanding her subject fairly well, my daughter was falling down on confidence, discipline/application, and planning. These aspects have improved considerably over the last year since working with Catherine who has been consistently patient and kind but also provided structure, support, and intelligent feedback.
