In 2021 I completed my PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Imperial College London where I then worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. Prior to this I graduated from University College London (UCL) with a 1st class degree in Medicinal Chemistry in September 2017 and was delighted to receive the Parke Davis Prize for the 'Most distinguished work in Medicinal Chemistry' amongst my peers. I have completed A-level Mathematics (A*), Chemistry (A), Biology (A), Physics (A), Accounting (A) and Modern Greek (A) at school, as well as additional IGCSEs in Geography (A*), French (A*), English as a first language (A) and English Literature (A*), providing me with a very diverse and multi-disciplinary background.

I have since worked in schools and private tutoring agencies to pursue my love for teaching, and I have now transitioned into a career in the pharmaceutical industry. The wide range of my knowledge and experience helps me tailor sessions to each individual student and provide real life examples in order to help consolidate the students' knowledge.

In my free time I enjoy cooking, gardening and doing pottery!

Teaching Experience

Over the last 12 years I have worked with students helping them with school work and preparing them for their GCSE (Maths, Chemistry, Biology), AS (Chemistry and Biology), A-level (Chemistry and Biology) and university exams (organic chemistry). This accounts for more than 1600 hours of combined teaching experience!

I am familiar with the specifications from a variety of exam boards (Edexcel, AQA, OCR) and can tailor sessions according to the needs of each student. Additionally, I taught undergraduates at Imperial College for three years, assisting in laboratory classes, delivering tutorial sessions and small problem classes.

Tutoring Approach

Throughout secondary school I was helping my friends out with their studies as I could provide them with an alternative way of learning and remembering things. This made me realise that in order to do well, you need to like what you are studying and this is what I aim to do with my students-make them like the topic by providing real-life applications of their knowledge! This ultimately translates to amazing exam results.

Through my teaching and tutoring experience I’ve learnt that each student has a unique learning profile and hence I tailor the lesson to the needs and capabilities of each individual. As a young tutor I can engage well with my students and this is reflected in my teaching methods. I use a combination of techniques (going through notes, worked examples, past paper questions, mini games etc) to address each topic, making each tutoring session as enjoyable as possible.

Since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, I had to adapt my lessons to be delivered online. I use a combination of Zoom, virtual whiteboards and specialist chemistry/biology drawing softwares as well as detailed notes to facilitate learning. Each lesson is adapted to the needs of each student and adjusted according to their goals. This has received great feedback from tutees so far.

Tutees are given actual exam questions to practice throughout the year to start building exam technique early on. This approach has massively improved the results obtained by my students the last two years!

Tutees and their parents/guardians are always very happy with the experience, resulting in students continuing tutoring with me over the course of their studies (from IGCSe through to A-level).

Emily was superb working with my daughter. Ensuring that she had the confidence in all areas of her A'level Chemistry, and working through many revision and exam techniques to help her on her way. Emily was excellent and my daughter found her to be easy to work with, really engaging and really knowledgeable. Would highly recommend! Fingers crossed that the exams have gone well!

I have really struggled with Organic Chemistry at University, from the start. Therefore in my third and final year of my BSc degree, I had finally decided to find some help. Emily's help has been very useful and valuable so far and my understanding has significantly increased - especially my confidence when approaching new questions.

Emily Tutored by daughter for her A Level Chemistry. Her patience and dedication is highly commended. My daughter struggled with her Mocks and Emily managed to bring her level up significantly. I would highly recommend Emily for A Level Chemistry tutoring.
