Ray is a professional violinist and viola player based between Chichester and London, trained at the Royal Academy of Music under Margaret Faultless and Nicolette Moonen. He holds an MA, LRAM in String Teaching, and has recently submitted a PhD at the University of Chichester researching musician wellbeing. He is an active freelance performer, having appeared at venues including Cadogan Hall, St John's Smith Square and Abbey Road Studios.

Ray has nearly two decades of teaching experience across London and the south of England, working with students of all ages and abilities from complete beginners to advanced level. He teaches violin and viola in his private studio across Chichester and London, at two outstanding secondary schools in West Sussex, and runs Apollo String Academy. He previously co-led the London String Academy and worked with Early Music as Education. He has prepared students for graded examinations, music college auditions and orchestral performance.

Ray tailors every lesson to the individual student — their personality, goals and learning style. He builds strong technical foundations alongside a genuine love of music, and integrates mindset coaching and performance anxiety strategies drawn from his doctoral research. His aim is for every student to feel confident, capable and inspired.
