Private Physics and Chemistry Tutor in Worksop

Hello! I’m Simon. I hold a PhD in structural biophysics/biochemistry, plus I have an honours degree in biochemistry and a masters in clinical chemistry. I am an experienced tutor of the sciences and mathematics, and have made a big difference to many students, inspiring many over the years, helping them to achieve their potential.

Prior to my tutoring career, I acquired eighteen years of experience working in clinical biochemistry laboratories within the NHS. More recently, I also have considerable experience working in the pharmaceutical industry as a scientist, and in a university research laboratory setting, with a role in helping to teach and mentor undergraduates.

I made the jump to being a self-employed tutor, as I wanted to make a difference in people's lives, and have a direct relationship with my clients. I love the variety of people I meet - students and parents, etc. - as a tutor, and helping students better understand, and often excel in, the subjects I tutor.

Teaching Experience

I have eleven years' experience working as a self-employed tutor in the sciences and mathematics, offering both face-to-face and online tutorial sessions. I have a track record of inspiring my students in the subjects I tutor, consistently helping them to much better understand these subjects and achieve or exceed their hopes and expectations. I have numerous happy clients who will testify to this, and I have lots of excellent reviews!

Tutoring Approach

I take a bespoke approach to tutoring, as all my students are different: they range from early secondary school age, through GCSE and A-level, and sometimes beyond, to adult. Some are studying subjects that they are strong in and want to ensure an outstanding result/grade. Others are weaker or struggling, and are looking for someone to explain concepts, which they find difficult to understand and increase their confidence with a view to them passing.

My initial approach is understanding students' requirements and establishing a rapport with them, which I tend to do quite easily. Obviously, different students have different abilities, personalities, strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, I tailor my approach to the requirements of each individual student. Tutorials are carried out in a relaxed atmosphere, where I involve students in the session rather than just talking "at" them, giving friendly encouragement throughout. I also make extensive and effective use of various illustrative materials and exercises, including past and mock exam papers, for those preparing for upcoming exams.
