I am an inspiring and experienced professional tutor of school-educated and home-educated children and of university-level students. I tutor ENGLISH at GCSE, A-level, undergraduate and Masters level; FRENCH language to GCSE and French literature to GCSE, A-level, undergraduate and Masters level; LATIN and MATHS to Common Entrance. I have a very high success rate in coaching students to pass 11+, school ENTRANCE and Common Entrance exams. I have helped students write PERSONAL STATEMENTS following which they have been accepted to Cambridge and Durham universities, among others. Children who work with me typically achieve two grades higher at GCSE than they were predicted at school. I tutor students throughout the world, and am experienced at giving video lessons. As an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, achieving a Commendation, I am a qualified university teacher and am experienced at teaching and tutoring undergraduates and young adults. I hold a PhD in French literature.
I love tutoring - developing an encouraging relationship with a student who needs extra help or one who needs extra challenge, providing them with engaging lessons and homework that are focused on exactly the skills they need to develop, understanding the difficulties they face as learners - all in a warm and supportive environment. In addition, I am happy to act as mentor and facilitator, and to assist students with university personal statements and applications.
I hold a PhD in Literature, an MA with Distinction in English Literature and a BA honours in French Language and Literature, both from University of London. As a recent PhD student, I understand very well the challenges of being a learner. I use this personal experience to empathise with students, particularly following this challenging period of disrupted learning, and to tailor lessons and expectations so that each individual makes progress in a sustainable and supported way.
