Private Maths and Further Maths Tutor in Camberley

Hi, I'm Chandon, and I'm a DBS certified Mathematics student entering my third year at Imperial College London. I've always been passionate about maths, whether that be learning more about interesting fields or sharing new discoveries with anyone who'd listen, and I plan to pursue a career in teaching after completing my degree. If you're looking for a tutor with a strong background in technical mathematics and the educational skills to help students grow in confidence and ability, I hope you reach out!

Teaching Experience

In my role as a tutor for We Solve Problems, I have helped to run interactive problem solving sessions for students aged 11-16. The content involved could be new or familiar, but is often very challenging, with the sessions being crafted specifically for those who wanted to go beyond their standard exam specifications. This requires a very hands-on approach, guiding students through questions that lie outside the topics they are already comfortable with.

I also have experience working in a supportive capacity in multiple secondary schools as part of an internship with XTSE. This involved spending time in maths classes across year groups and ability sets, mostly working with individual students to help them understand key concepts within the curriculum and correct any misconceptions they might have.

During my time in college, I ran after school drop-in sessions for first year students, specifically focusing on core skills and helping to push towards the standard needed for a passing grade. Rather than more complex problem solving questions, we would work on foundational principles to reinforce the important ideas that the rest of the course built on.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring has been shaped by the time I've spent working with pupils of different ages, ability levels, and backgrouds - every student has their own set of strengths and struggles, which is why I strongly believe in the importance of adaptability in tutoring.

I think that understanding a student's grasp of material should always be an ongoing process. Rather than a one-size-fits-all method, tutoring allows a level of individual focus that is just not possible in larger school classes, which can be used to pinpoint exactly what is preventing a student from answering a certain question, or understanding a certain topic. For me, exploring their perspective and the obstacles they are currently experiencing is key to putting them in a position where they can enter exams confident in their own ability.
