I am a PhD qualified and highly experienced tutor with over 15 years experience teaching and tutoring students of engineering, maths, further maths, physics and chemistry. I have also worked for 10 years for a reputable engineering consultancy. My academic and professional experience enable me to teach subject material from first principles, giving deep insights of the concepts, and the practical applications of the subject content.
Subjects I teach
I have extensive experience providing tuition in the following subjects:
(1) Engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. (Modules listed below)
(2) Physics at GCSE and A-level
I am well-versed with the AS and A2 syllabus on all the major exam boards. In addition I help prepare students for Physics Admission Test (PAT) to Oxford University, and the ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test) to Cambridge and Imperial.
(3) Maths and Further Maths at GCSE and A-level
I cover the syllabus for all years, teaching from first principles to give the student deep insights and a solid understanding of the concepts. In addition I help prepare students for the TMUA admissions test, which is required for students applying for maths related degrees at LSE, Imperial College, Cambridge, and Warwick.
(4) Chemistry at GCSE level
I teach single science chemistry on all the major examination boards.
Value-Added Services and Mentorship
Beyond subject tutoring, my background as a professional engineer allows me to offer crucial, high-level support:
Academic Writing: Advice and proof-reading for technical reports, dissertations, and literature reviews.
Research Skills: Guidance on selecting research topics, planning experimental work, and writing up findings.
Study Skills: Proven advice on project management, effective revision strategies, and presentation preparation.
Mentoring: General career advice and guidance for students entering the STEM and engineering professions, and help with writing UCAS personal statements.
Online Tuition Method
I use an advanced web-based whiteboard, BitPaper, in conjunction with a video conferencing app. This combination is highly-rated by students for creating a seamless, face-to-face quality experience, as it allows us both to write and interact simultaneously. All relevant documents and images can be easily uploaded or copied and posted into BitPaper and annotated directly on the board. In addition, everything is automatically saved to the cloud for continuous reference after the lesson, and sessions can also be recorded.
Engineering subjects I teach:
My extensive experience covers Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering.
Specific modules include:
Engineering mathematics: Topics i teach include, Vector Calculus, partial differential equations, Laplace transforms, Fourier series, Matrix algebra.
Mechanics & Dynamics: Statics and Rigid body dynamics, Mechanical vibrations,
Solid Mechanics (Mechanics of Materials). Materials Science: Engineering materials, Fatigue and Fracture mechanics.
Fluids & Heat: Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, Fluid mechanics, and Fluid dynamics.
